The defense in the Enron trial was dealt a setback Thursday when they had to drop a plan to introduce evidence from ex-Arthur Andersen partner David Duncan. Attorneys for former Enron Chairman Ken Lay and former CEO Jeff Skilling had planned to read jurors more than an hour of testimony Duncan gave in the 2002 Andersen trial, but Judge Sim Lake said if they did that, prosecutors could bring up the fact that Duncan admitted he ordered Enron-related documents shredded two days after he learned about a federal probe into the company. more ›

Wednesday's installment of the Ken Lay/Jeff Skilling trial focused on Sherron Watkin's memo to Ken Lay warning of an impending financial meltdown at Enron — a memo a Houston lawyer called nothing more than "office gossip." more ›

Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling must be getting tired of these pesky former Enron executives who keep taking the witness stand at their trial. The latest was Sherron Watkins, who wrote a memo to ex-Chairman Lay in 2001 warning about coming trouble in the company's finances and testified yesterday that she saw all kinds of shady business practices during her time at the Big E. Watkins told jurors that she went to work for ex-CFO... more ›

Though Alvarado has maintained that she didn't have anything to do with the employees in the mayor pro tem office taking extravagant payraises and more than $140,000 in unauthorized bonuses, the question remains how all... more ›
