Internationally acclaimed artists, architect, and weirdo Vito Acconci will be lecturing at the MFA tonight. Over the course of his almost fifty year career in the art world Vito has stuffed marbles in his face, bitten himself, and whispered lewd remarks to strangers while inappropriately touching himself in public for the sake of his art. In the 1990's Vito turned his artistic talents to the fields of architecture and landscape design. And has developed a significant body of experimental architectural projects. He has lectured around the world, has taught at many institutions, including the Cooper Union; School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Yale University; and the Parsons School of Design. He currently teaches at Brooklyn College. more ›

Check it out: Jeanne Cassanova / Reginald Rachuba The Joanna Gallery "Those in attendance can be assured a multi sensory onslaught of 'image spillage'." Oh, really. We have to admit, the term "spillage" sort of scares us, but the image at right is so cool, we're willing to risk it. Both Cassanova and Rachuba pull from contemporary images and create narratives woven between each other... more ›

Cara Barer—The Book Project DeSantos Gallery Beginning with just a found soiled copy of the Yellow Pages, Cara Barer created The Book Project, and eventually had volumes of new sculptures resulting from old books. As book lovers, our first inclination was to scoff at the idea of destroying old books for the sake of art. But then we saw the sculptures. This is one of the Houstonist's favoritist things we've seen in a long time.... more ›

This is a busy week for Houstonian and Project Runway winner Chloe Dao. The DVD of her season of the hit Bravo show hit stores on Tuesday, and if she wants a copy, she’ll be buying it herself. (Chloe is apparently even paying for her flight to the premiere party for season three. At least she got a new car and $100,000 when she won the show.) Lucky for us, Chloe says on the DVD that she has no plans to leave Houston. Instead, she’s hoping she can create “a little fashion capitol” here. more ›
