Houstonist was just working on our end-of-the-week checklist and realized that we haven't oversaturated you with reminders about , Houstonist's second biennial photo show. But maybe we should: The deadline for you to submit your photos is Monday, July 13, which leaves just three full days to get your work to us.

Last week whilst doing our daily perusing of the MFAH calendar of events, we noticed the site recently underwent a facelift. Well, to be fair, only the homepage did. The rest of the site is still an overly busy collection of links, exhibits and sections.

Today: Opening of The Hour: Cocktail Time Design 1930-1980

Charles Waldheim, visiting Cullinan Professor at Rice, and Associate Dean and Director of the Landscape Architecture Program at the University of Toronto, will be at Anderson Hall on Rice's campus Monday, March 10th at 5:00pm. Professor Waldheim is known for his pioneering work in landscape architecture, and urbanism. He is editor of the Landscape Urbanism Reader, Post-Fordist Public Works, has published numerous articles, and spoken and lectured at major US and international universities.

Internationally acclaimed artists, architect, and weirdo Vito Acconci will be lecturing at the MFA tonight. Over the course of his almost fifty year career in the art world Vito has stuffed marbles in his face, bitten himself, and whispered lewd remarks to strangers while inappropriately touching himself in public for the sake of his art. In the 1990's Vito turned his artistic talents to the fields of architecture and landscape design. And has developed a significant body of experimental architectural projects. He has lectured around the world, has taught at many institutions, including the Cooper Union; School of the Art Institute of Chicago; Yale University; and the Parsons School of Design. He currently teaches at Brooklyn College.

If you missed out on the Beer Can Opener last Friday (because you were embroiled in the LRPC - any other excuse will not be accepted, unless accompanied by a note from your Dr.), you have a second chance to attend a special event. Join Mayor Bill White as he honors and officially opens the Beer Can House to the public, along with the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art. This Thursday, March 6th at 10 a.m. brings the official ceremony to open the Beer Can House to the public for the first time. Previously, we could only drive by and peep at this legendary home. After all, who can resist sneaking a peek at a home that has been adorned with over 50,000 beer cans, along with marbles, tiles, concrete, pull tabs and bottle tops. Now, there's no more sneaking around, you can drop by any Saturday or Sunday, beginning March 8th, from noon until 5 p.m. and have an up close "look-see". Or, you can make a special appointment, either way, there will be guides on hand to answer your questions and even give you a tour. If you're nice, you may even get a cold beer, after all, this house is an homage to all beers, particularly those that were "on special" between 1968 and 1988, when upholsterer, artist and beer lover, John Milkovisch passed away.

The sun rose on a beautiful, windy day on Sunday. In the whispers of the wind, you could almost hear the encouragement, and smell the impending victory. Your valiant Houstonist staff would soon convene to take on the Houston Arts & Media Houston History Road Rally (HAMHHRR) for the sake of honor, historical preservation, and cheap beer.

>> Poll shows split over Clemens, McNamee: The court of public opinion currently stands divided in Harris County regarding the Roger Clemens steroid scandal according to a poll by The Chronicle. According to the results published yesterday by David Barron, 35.5 percent said believed McNamee; 32.8 percent sided with The Rocket; and, 31.7 percent did not respond. The margin of error is listed at 4.1 percent. These numbers may prove initially encouraging for Clemens with a Justice Department investigation looming in his future. However, the data seems to indicate that his support base is less educated than McNamee's. Does it really seem hard to believe that someone kept a beer can, dirty gauze and a used syringe for seven years?

Professor Trinh T. Minh-ha, renowned film artist and curator, will be at the MFA today, tomorrow and Saturday to discuss her career and work. Currently a Professor of Rehtoric and Gender Studies at the University of California at Berkeley, Minh-ha has focused on film and cinema as a medium for cultural critique. She has completed installation exhibitions at the Kyoto Art Biennale, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, San Francisco, and most recently at The Musée du Quai Branly, Paris, France. In addition to installation work she has completed numerous other films, music pieces and publications.

Houstonist has an active and amazing Flickr photo group. We receive many, many photos of Houston and the surrounding areas every day and unless you are an active visitor to our photo pool many of these photos go unnoticed.
