Protest over national vs. regional chains, the never-ending debate over the place of cars and bicycles in our metropolises, professional sports scandals, remembering a solemn day, and being issued a search warrant - it all happened across our sites this week! Another banner week at Chicagoist started off with daily reports from food writer Lisa Shames on her attempt to eat only locally grown and raised foodstuffs all week as part of a farmers market...

Happy first weekend of September - and happy Labor Day weekend, too, for our American cities! Let's take a look at what's been happening around the Ist-a-verse. The deaths of two firefighters shook Bostonist this week. Boston's firefighters bent over backwards all week long - first, they fought flames pouring from the Boston Tea Party museum, and then a restaurant fire killed two and injured many more. Their efforts make everything else - like Tom...

If you were inside on Saturday, avoiding the heat and humidity, you had the opportunity to watch the Texans take on the reigning NFC Champion Chicago Bears. Preseason or not, the Texans were no match for the Bears, losing 20-19 at Reliant. Franchise savior du jour Matt Schaub was 3-5 on pass attempts, but he did actually show poise in the pocket in situations that would've made David Carr curl into a fetal position. RB...

This weekend will be both glorious and depressing for Houstonist and any other true football fans. February 4th will provide the most anticipated game of the pro football season, Super Bowl XLI.(The crowd goes wild!) Unfortunately 2/4 will also be the last day of football until early September.(BOOOOO!) For the record, unless you attend in person, the Pro Bowl doesn’t count. So to celebrate/mourn this auspicious/ominous occasion, we have found not one, not two, but three libations for this year’s Super Bowl Sunday. Please, please, no applause. Just send money.

Super Bowl Shuffle - video powered by Metacafe Houstonist is not picking sides on this weekend’s Super Bowl (well, at least not publicly), but we do feel the need to show the Chicago Bears Shufflin’ Crew’s “Super Bowl Shuffle” from the 1985-86 season for several reasons: 1) The Bears are in the Super Bowl this year, 2) The video is so campy, it’s funny 3) We have to support our fellow –ist site in the...

I have a huge problem. I’m a big Bears fan (and a huge White Sox fan, but I’ll let that slide for the time being as to not open old wounds), but as this weekend approaches, I realized that I have nobody to watch The Game with. For years, I would be watching The Game with a few dozen other sweatpants-wearing, brat-eating, true Chicagoans — and for the first time in my first month as...

Sunday. Usually, a quiet, contemplative day in the Blogosphere. But not here in the Ist-a-Verse. Nonono! Just look below and see all of the wild and crazy stuff our staffs are up to. In Austin, bands are beginning to confirm for SXSW and the rumor mill is up and running. Good thing, too, because we all know how much Austinites love live performances. Austin also found itself in the national spotlight, with Longhorn Legend...

If you want to find out what gifts to buy for kids this holiday season, why not go straight to the horse's — er, mouth? A group of fifth graders at Longfellow Elementary School are making it easier to do just that: They've done a study to help guide we old farts to what the young'uns really want. As student Cody Neil explained: "We conducted a campus survey with the idea of helping adults avoid gift-giving mistakes." What, they don't like colorful sweaters?

Photograph of Rick Santorum conceding defeat with his family by Gene J. Puskar/AP The -ists this week had politics on the brain. And what goes better with politics? Partying-- that's two great tastes in one. Oh, and Kevin Federline...can't forget about Kevin Federline. That's three great tastes in one. -Bostonist discussed two big state issues-- what sort of math constitutes a marriage and what kind of alcohol can be sold in most grocery stores....

Let's take a look back at a week that raised this Zen koan: if Kevin Federline got into a wrestling ring with a wrestler, who would you root for? Austinist was in an entertainment state of mind as they covered the dickens out of the Austin Film Festival, depicted all the Big 12 football coaches as South Park characters, and interviewed Jose Gonzalez. Chicagoist talked about the passion as they bid adieu to Bell...
