Houstonist's brain cell is put to the test each week as we try to pick-out the best Missed Connections for the write-up. This week was no exception. Typically the MC's we highlight focus on are blown hook-ups or lust - like the dude looking for Jean Girard or Funky Cold Medina. Occasionally folks try to reach non-lover types like the hit-and-run jackass from Avondale & Whitney. This week's selection falls into the non-lover category, specifically the "reach out and slap the shit out of your inconsiderate boss" area.
This week on Craigslist, users were missing each other in clubs and, weirdly, laundry mats and sharing conversations about some really unlikely possibilities, near-death experiences and, interestingly, God. Here is the cream of the crop:
Beyonce is all over the news again. There are reports that she’s jealous over her “Dreamgirls” co-star Jennifer Hudson. And from what Beyonce said to defend herself, it sounds like she really is barely jealous at all. (Please note the sarcasm.) "I'm already a star. I already have nine Grammys. Everyone knows I can sing," Knowles said. "I did this because I wanted people to know that I can act and I can play someone...
Remember a couple of weeks ago, when HPD announced that it was revising its chase policy to limit the times officers would go after miscreants? Yeah, so did the guy who led police on a 20-minute chase through Houston last night after he refused to stop for a traffic violation in north Harris County. But there were a couple of problems: The guy was being chased by county deputies, who don't follow HPD policy — and the chase policy change in the city has been put on hold anyway. Oops.
Andrea Yates showed signs of severe mental illness and psychosis in the weeks before she drowned her five children, doctors and Yates' former mother in law testified yesterday in Yates' capital murder retrial. At least one doctor who saw Yates before the killings said she presented a substantial risk to herself and other people: "She was one of the sickest people I've ever seen, and I think she was suffering from some sort of mental...
Here's a new home-invasion technique: Early Wednesday morning, a fake CenterPoint gas man showed up at a house and ended up in a gunfight with the homeowner. It happened in northwest Houston, in the 3300 block of Breckenridge, at about 1 a.m. when a man wearing a CenterPoint shirt knocked on the door of Oscar Mitchell's house and told Mitchell there was a gas leak. Only problem: Neither Mitchell nor any of his neighbors have gas connections. So the suspect activated his Plan B, which involved bringing in an accomplice and forcing their way into the house. The second man shot Mitchell, and Mitchell shot the erstwhile CenterPoint employee.
