Good morning, Houston. There's nothing quite like a building implosion to lift our spirits at the beginning of the week — if, of course, it's a building we won't miss. That happened to be the case with the Crowne Plaza hotel in the Medical Center, which was reduced to rubble Sunday; click the link for video from KHOU. (Be prepared to wait — there's a lot of buildup to the big moment in Channel...

Houstonist joined over 70,000 rodeo fans and rock music lovers in Reliant Stadium last night for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo finale. This wasn't our first Houston Rodeo, but it was the first time Houstonist had attended with a rodeo nut. We were skeptical about arriving at 10:45 AM on a day when the main events did not commence until 3:45 PM. How were we to occupy our time until the stadium opened? Team...
On Sundays, Houstonist runs opinion pieces relevant to life in Houston. The opinions expressed below are entirely those of the author. Need to know just a little bit about something? Ask a dilettante. What a week for females in the news. A crazed and diapered astronaut. A celebrity death and subsequent who’s the daddy discussion. And the Texas governor demanding that sixth grade girls get vaccinated against a sexually-transmitted virus. Does there have to be...
This week Houston's Missed Connections seemed to present a record number of neighbors in heat, publicly broadcasted responses and the usual amount of "I didn't wanna be cheesy by hitting on you in the Wal-Mart parking lot, so I've decided to broadcast my affections from the top of a mountain. But, I didn't have mountain so I used Craig's List instead" type of pleas for lurve.
It's news you might have missed, but late last month the FDA lifted a 14-year-old moratorium on silicone breast implants. Big deal? Yeah, potentially — many women prefer the softer, lighter-weight silicone implants to the saline implants that have been used for the past few years, and the move back to silicone could mean a boom for plastic surgeons in Houston, where fake boobs are unusually popular (our fair city even earned the nickname "Silicone...
We have to admit that we've quickly become fans of the Press's new HouStoned blog — not so much because the posts are well-written, not so much because it featured boobs, and not even so much because there was a post today on a coming collaboration between Pimp C and Quanell X, a situation that gave us a headache when we tried to figure it out. No, what really hooked us was something the HouStoned folks did the first day: They told us what happened to the mural on the side of Mary's bar.
The Queen of Pop has just announced her tour dates for the "Confessions" spring tour, and she'll be hitting all the major cities — L.A., New York, Philly, Chicago, Miami, Boston. Heck, Madonna's even taking her pointy boobs to Phoenix, Fresno, Hartford and San Jose ... but not Houston. Houstonist isn't a diehard Madge fan, but we're curious enough that we might check out her show if she came to town. But now, we're kinda wondering if we like her at all.
