If you missed last year's MamaDramaConQueso blogger meet up like we did, you are probably still kicking yourself for missing a chance to see Dwight Silverman take his clothes off, like we are. (kicking ourselves, not taking our clothes off). But that can be arranged.

So the Draft Environmental Impact Study for Metro's proposed University light rail line has been released — a lot of information that a lot of people will be poring over. Fortunately, Christof at Intermodality has a summary of the DEIS for the line's western segment already, and here's what he found: There are three alignment options for the Main-to-Hillcroft segment of the University Line: Richmond to Cummins to Westpark, Richmond to Greenway to Westpark, and...
Beginning tomorrow, the ladies of the Houston Roller Derby will be busy, busy!!! Now, to keep the action moving, these ladies practice quite often (we think it's like three or four times per week, we are not certain - don't quote us on that!), but, they are gearing up to give Houston some love! Beginning tomorrow at 8:30 in the a.m. the ladies will be accepting donations/non-perishables at the Kroger at Buffalo Speedway and Westpark...
After Krispy Kreme donuts left the Houston market early last year, finding a satisfying piece of fried dough got a little harder. Enter the beignet. Now, we’re not saying that the beignet is a substitute for the Krispy Kreme. Nor is the Krispy Kreme a replacement for the beignet. But if you happen to crave something sweet, doughy and fried, the beignet fulfills all three requirements. In a perfect world Café Du Monde would expand...
Five restaurants in southwest Houston, near Buffalo Speedway and 59, were burglarized yesterday morning by a thief who police are still searching for, according to KTRK. The crime spree began around 1:45 am yesterday and lasted only a few minutes. It also returned little reward - the unidentified burglar made off with a grand total of zero in cash. The man also made his getaway on a bicycle, which we hear is the preferred means of transportation for environmentally friendly burglars these days.
There's a new kid on the sub sandwich block, folks: Houstonians who worship at the altar of Jimmy John's will rejoice over the grand opening of a franchise on Houston soil today. The first Jimmy John's in Houston is located on 59 N between Weslayan and Buffalo Speedway. The chain of sandwich shops is popular with college students, likely because of their late hours, and their nearly 500 locations are mostly in college towns....
And so we have some final-ish alignment options for Metro's University light rail line: All of them would begin at MetroRail's Wheeler Station on Main Street and head west along Richmond Avenue for some distance, and all would avoid Afton Oaks, which has been a loudly squeaking wheel in the planning process. But that's pretty much where the similarities end: • The first proposal would turn south on Montrose Boulevard, then west on an elevated...
A police chase early this morning ended with the two suspects getting away and police finding a shotgun, purse and ski masks in their car. It clearly means something, but Houstonist has no idea what it is: The guys were trying to be as stereotypical as possible while robbing people? In drag?
Blanco's, located at the corner of Buffalo Speedway and W. Alabama, is known more as a honkytonk, serving up the likes of Gary P. Nunn and Alvin Crow, both of whom we've seen there. However, Houstonians may not be aware of the lunch specials, burgers, quesadillas and other offerings they serve up. Recently, Houstonist went in for lunch to get the standard bacon cheeseburger and onion rings. Difficult to pass up, are the red...

A couple of weeks ago, Chronicle energy blogger Lynn Cook wrote about spotting a Smart Car on Buffalo Speedway — a pretty rare sight, considering that there are only eight dealerships in the U.S. selling the cars, and the closest are in Phoenix and Colorado Springs. Still, Cook reports that ZAP, the company marketing the Smart Cars in America, has big plans for the tiny vehicles. In case you're not familiar, Smart Cars are...
It's a red-letter day for commuters on the southwest side. That's right: The northbound Spur 527 opened this morning, meaning those pesky traffic backups we've sat in for the past two years as we tried to get downtown on the Southwest Freeway have vanished.
Residents and business owners along the proposed University light rail line will meet with the Metro board today to give their opinions on the line — and it looks like there's a lot of opposition, at least as it's reported in the Chronicle.
