Yes, Houston - The Black Godfather is gracing us with his presence this Friday night!!! Houston's own, The Allen Oldies Band will be backin' up Andre Williams at the Continental Club and the show begins at 10 p.m. You don't know who he is? We'll hook you up. A ladie's man from way back, Andre was born in Bessemer, Alabama in 1936 and eventually ended up in Detroit, where he recorded over 50 songs for Fortune Records. He has worked for Barry Gordy and produced records for Stevie Wonder and Ike and Tina Turner. In addition to his own songs, he has written material for George Clinton's Funkadelic. Now, Chi-Town is where he makes his home. Some of his material includes "Shake A Tailfeather", "Bacon Fat", "JailBait" and "Pass the Biscuits". As if this weren't intriguing enough, you really need to see "raunch rock" for yourself, so head on over to the Continental Club for some serious good times tomorrow night.

Yesterday was the second of the Super Tuesdays for this Presidential Election year and included primary elections in Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas and Vermont. Houstonist could careless about who wins. We're just excited to see the record turnout at the polls. We all win when that happens. Congratulations, Houston, and all you Texans that don't live in our kickass town.
>> Two Houston Area Offshore Drilling Companies Win Big: The oil and money are flowing freely for two drilling companies based in Houston. A report in the Houston Business Journal, lists 2007 revenue for mammoth behemoth, Transocean closed out at $3.1 billion. The company also announced a $586 million contract extension with client Anadarko, another Houston company. The HBJ also reports that The Rowan Companies also inked a three year deal. The Rowan deal is valued at $201 million for services provided to Saudi Aramco. The Houston-based company manufactures and operates deep water drilling platforms that operate around the globe.
>> There are some big changes coming to Memorial Park: Houston's most popular park with a running trail and a burger joint is slated to get more improved features to help you sweat to the oldies. According to ABC13, Mayor Bill White's improvement plan will include a bridge across Memorial Parkway for cyclists and pedestrians, extended running trails, an improved tennis facility and a new shower facility for you dirty folks. Sounds pricey, huh? Yep. The City needs another $10 million bucks to combine with the $4 million currently earmarked for the project. Houstonist is awaiting confirmation of the rumor that EZ Tag stalls will be installed along the running trails to help pay for the project.

Mayor White nixed free flu shots at polling places today due to criticism that the program would give Democrats an unfair advantage in the elections. Up till today, the shots were available at four early voting locations in medically needy areas, primarily populated by black and Hispanic voters. This was part of a national "vote and vaccinate" program that is in place in 20 other US cities. The program targets voters over the age of 50.
Houston is the fifth fattest city, according to Men’s Fitness Magazine. The NY Times reports today on Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen's new multimillion-dollar book deal, which puts him in the same class — at least in terms of literary profits — as presidents, popes and Alan Greenspan. Osteen has signed a deal with Free Press, a division of Simon & Schuster.
