Happy Father's Day! For those of you who have dads, are dads, or know dads, this one's for you, from all of us at the Gothamist network. It was a week of bizarre, embarassing headlines at DCist. The trial of the local administrative law judge who sued his cleaners for $54 million over a pair of missing pants left everyone shaking their heads. Then the capital city was nearly brought to its knees, twice, by... more ›

We learned from former ABC 13 weatherman Ed Brandon's guest post on the mike mcguff blog this week that Tuesday was Ed Brandon Day. How did you celebrate? At City Hall on Tuesday, Brandon was presented with a fancy plaque and there were all sorts of festivities. If you're hiking, consider charging up your iPod, as Seattlest finds out that a man lost during a hike was found by the glow of his iPod. That cleverness seems to be devoid in cops who were using police cruiser instant messaging clients - although we imagine IMs "so are you nakie" to be included in cop shows, just for realism. If only the cops were busting the Hummer-driving jerk who made a poor... more ›

Enter Thanksgiving TV, your best buddy for Turkey Day — and an essential part of your post-meal nap in your favorite recliner. Start Thanksgiving Day with three parades: the H-E-B Holiday Parade from downtown Houston, the Macy's parade from New York and the WLS Thanksgiving Day Parade from Chicago. The main... more ›

Looking for a way to promote yourself all over Houston? You might consider becoming the sponsor of Houston's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Washington Mutual announced Wednesday it's pulling out as the parade's sponsor, leaving the Houston Festival Foundation Inc., which produces the parade, to find another corporate buddy. more ›

Don't forget on Turkey Day morning that the 56th Annual Washington Mutual Thanksgiving Day Parade will be rolling through downtown Houston. We at Houstonist love a good parade and, though ours may not be the biggest, we're one of the few parades in the country that can be enjoyed while wearing a t-shirt (the National Weather Service is calling for a temperature in the upper 70s in the afternoon. It should be in lower 60s when the parade starts with maybe a few clouds). more ›
