Houstonist is trying to attend all of the not-to-be-missed events around town this weekend, one of which is the Annual ArtCrawl taking place downtown this Saturday in the area formerly know as Frost Town. The event began in 1993 when community artists opened their studios to the public the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Since then the ArtCrawl has become one of Houston's most anticipated annual parties events. This year twenty-six studios throughout downtown and over one hundred artists will welcome the public to explore the artists' creative process and to become more familiar with the happening Houston art scene.

Lucky's Pub has become the place for Houstonist’s pre and post Astros game hangout. Haven’t been there yet? Where ya’ been? Yeah, the ‘Stros may be hovering around last place in their division, but that’s no reason not to take in as many games as you can and have a good time, regardless of standings or the final score.

Houstonist has an active and amazing Flickr photo group. We receive many, many photos of Houston and the surrounding areas every day and unless you are an active visitor to our photo pool many of these photos go unnoticed. So in a weekly effort to bring you more amazing photos from Houstonist readers and photographers, we are going to feature a block of photos submitted to our Flickr photo group. The images will be dug up from deep within our photo pool archives and we hope to expose you to even more wonderful Houston photography.

The consensus of people at an urban planning workshop on the Main Street corridor Monday? In short: It needs to be more urban. The Planning Partnership, a Toronto firm hired to create a development plan for Main Street, held the workshop, which was meant to get the public's input on how to guide future construction along the corridor. Because the MetroRail line is already in place and major buildings already stand along Main, planning will...

It’s nice outside today. Feels like a good day for a protest, right? Sure! They’re happening all across the country (we were tipped off by reading LAist). And sure enough, Houston is partaking in the trend. After all, we already established that we’re hip. It’s being organized by The World Can’t Wait. And if you’re “red”, this will not, we repeat, NOT be your cup of joe. However, if you’re more on the “blue”...

City Council yesterday approved a flat rate for all taxi rides within the downtown freeway loop and the creation of at least eight new taxi stands downtown, all part of an effort to make downtown more accessible to visitors, people without cars and downtown office workers. The flat rate, $6 for any trip inside the loop bounded by I-10, I-45 and Highway 59, applies no matter how many people share the cab. We fully expect...
