Remember back in May, when news broke about the possibility of building a new stadium for the Houston Dynamo downtown? Back then, everyone said negotiations between the city and the Dynamo would wrap in in -mid-July — but now that we're actually in the middle of July, that's changed. The new target for an announcement, the Chronicle reports, is September — but that doesn't mean talks are breaking down, apparently. "We believe we've made some...
The Chronicle has a few more details today about the proposed Houston Dynamo stadium downtown — but not many. What we know: It would be an open-air stadium seating somewhere around 22,000 people, and it would likely be built on Minute Maid Park's parking lot C, the six-square-block lot on the other side of Highway 59 from the baseball stadium. Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the Dynamo, would pay most of the construction costs, and the stadium would open for the 2010 season.
Good morning, Houston. We managed to miss this news the other day, but according to CNNMoney.com, Harris County has the sixth most millionaires of any county in the U.S. There are 99,504 millionaire households in Harris County — that's 8.25 percent of all households in the county and 16 percent of the state's millionaire households. Topping the list is Los Angeles County, with a whopping 268,138 millionaire households. And not among the top 10:...
Last night's postponed match between the Houston Dynamo and the Pachuca Tuzos on the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium, will take place tonight at 5 p.m. A power outage forced both teams to call it a night as a transformer blew just a few hours before Wednesday's scheduled showdown. All tickets and parking passes for last night's game will be accepted for tonight. Unfortunatley, no refunds will be given due to the fact the...
Dynamo back-up goal keeper Zach Wells made an incredilbe P.K. save yesterday vs. Puntarenas FC, but it didn't serve well enough to make the win. The Dynamo was in Coasta Rica for the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup. By winning the 2006 MLS Cup, the Houston Dynamo secured one of two MLS spots representing the United States in the Champions Cup, the other being D.C. United. In addition, the Dynamo becomes the first...
Earlier this month, we talked about the proposal to build a youth sports complex on the site of the Wortham Park Golf Course, one of three public courses inside the Loop and an East End institution for a hundred years. The complex proposal is part of Houston's push to keep the Dynamo in town — the team is looking for a new stadium and has stipulated that a youth soccer/sports complex be part of the deal, and Houston is keen to keep the men in orange from moving to the suburbs.
Since the Houston Dynamo moved to town last year, it's been a foregone conclusion that someone somewhere would have to build the team a stadium. But where — and who — is still up in the air, and as the Chronicle reports today, Houston is trying to put together a plan that would keep the Dynamo from rocking the suburbs. The focus of the Chron's report is a proposal to put a Dynamo stadium downtown...
Still looking for the perfect gift for the person who has everything? Well, if that person happens to be a soccer lover and doesn't mind having a really cool present taken away from them, you're in luck: If you're willing to pay enough, you could have the Houston Dynamo's MLS Cup under your tree.
