Well, the mercury is set to dip into the 'teens tonight. BRRRRR. Hope you are well prepared! One way to keep warm, is dancing. Tonight, you can dance to your hearts content at The Big Easy on Kirby and help local blues legend, Earl Gilliam, celebrate his 80th birthday! A whopping five bucks gets you in the door to see a rare performance by Earl. He is also bringing some of his slow-cooked barbecue and his wife, Carrie Jean is providing some sides. The music cranks up at 9:30 p.m. and goes on until 1:30 a.m. We are not positive about this, but, normally when Earl has a party the blues musicians are out to back him up, sing and enjoy his company. Here's a sample filmed when he was a spry 74 yrs old, dig it. We get all verklempt just listening - that link is about ten minutes of blues jam and worth every second!
The Big Easy is "the place to be" for all party-goers this Sunday afternoon! Local blues legend, Earl Gilliam - the best Blues organist alive, is home from a two-month stay in the hospital. In December, 2008, Earl suffered an initial, partial-lung collapse which he recently had surgically corrected, hence the long hospitalization. The Big Easy is having a huge party, this Sunday, October 4th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., as over 15 Blues and Zydeco bands and musicians will be taking the stage to help raise monies for the Gilliam's to offset their medical expenses. Sponsored by The Big Easy, The Houston Blues Society, and the Blues DJ's from 90.1 KPFT, along with a good number of volunteers - this promises to be a fantastic party.
