After a week off for prayer and fasting in the hope that Roger Clemens would finally appear in the media again, our supplications were heard and we feel up to posting this roundup again. For those of you who are new around these parts, this is where we take a look at what the blogs and other media are saying about our hometown sports teams each week.

The Super Bowl is on Sunday, and naturally we'll be watching the game (and the commericals), but the real news around town is the up-and-down season the Rockets are having. They win with T-Mac, they win without T-mac, they definitely lose without Yao. If Rick Adelman can get everyone on the same page, they could still be formidable in the playoffs. Otherwise, we're looking at another five-and-out in the first round. On to the links:
Nikki Sixx, bass player for Motley Crue stopped in town this weekend for a book and CD signing at Borders on Kirby. Fans lined up before the store opened for a chance to get his new book and CD, The Heroin Diaries signed by the author. There were many fans in attendance, some coming from as far as Dallas. Houstonist would like to thank Borders District Manager, Suzannah Napier for this opportunity....
This past week was a study in contrasts for Houston sports fans: the Texans were idle but the Rockets played host to the most-watched basketball game in the world; the Astros made a trade that ended the Houston career of one of our biggest anti-heroes while the Dynamo set the stage for what may be Houston's first championship dynasty since the Rockets' run in the 90's. Let's take a look at what the blogs were...
Happy Monday from the Sports Doldrums! With the World Series over, the Texans being the Texans, and the Rockets not quite started, this has got to be the worst time of the sports year. But sports being what they are, people are still talking about them. Here's what the blog world has been saying about your hometown teams: - Sad, but unsurprising, end to the story of the life and death of Eddie Griffin....
In case you weren't familiar, there's a large university in Austin, with orange and white for their colors, and a big, drugged cow for a mascot. You may have also heard that their football team is usually pretty good, and that a couple years ago, they actually won a national championship in football. Their quarterback that year kinda flew under the radar, so you may not have heard about him, either: regardless, he was...
Minute Maid Clubhouse Tours
The year was 1992 and Morrissey was probably on tour for his album Your Arsenal when he made a stop at a little independent music store for an autograph session. The now defunct Record Rack formerly at Shepherd and West Alabama was the site for this pandemonium. Fans camped for hours in the sweltering July heat for a chance to see their idol. Some were so overcome with emotion they could barely conduct an interview,...
Happy Friday, Sports Fans! We are watching our Rice Owls kick off the NCAA College World Series. We are addicted to sports - local sports - all of them! Houston can be a sports heartbreak waiting to happen! Speaking of breaks (and we seriously, seriously hope there are none - we were there when Catazon suffered hers!) some flat track action is gonna bust out on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.! Come on out and get...
Good morning, Houston. Even if you don't have a pizza pan with the Virgin Mary's silhouette on it, don't despair: You could still own a half-liter bottle of holy drinking water. The water is being marketed by a man in Stockton, Calif., who has the liquid blessed by Catholic and Anglican priests with plans to expand the line to other faiths as well. One warning: The water's label carries the note that sinners who...
This weekend will be both glorious and depressing for Houstonist and any other true football fans. February 4th will provide the most anticipated game of the pro football season, Super Bowl XLI.(The crowd goes wild!) Unfortunately 2/4 will also be the last day of football until early September.(BOOOOO!) For the record, unless you attend in person, the Pro Bowl doesn’t count. So to celebrate/mourn this auspicious/ominous occasion, we have found not one, not two, but three libations for this year’s Super Bowl Sunday. Please, please, no applause. Just send money.
