Ah, Nielsen's Deli - home of Houston's most luscious, and best ever homemade chicken salad and one very mean deviled egg. For over 55 years, Nielsen's has been the Afton Oaks area's source for deli sandwiches and salads, homemade desserts, stuffed jalapenos, luncheon trays, finger sandwiches and homemade soups. This lunchtime jewel is located on Richmond Avenue, just inside Loop 610, near the Galleria. It's convenient from downtown too, peeps! Open 7 days a week, from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. you gotta make a stop for some chicken salad, even if you buy a pint to go (it's fantastic slathered on a good grainy cracker). As we intimated, the deviled eggs are amazing, Houstonist Mama would be proud of them, for sure. The egg salad is wonderful too! Our standard order is a regular chicken salad on whole wheat with lettuce and tomato and two deviled eggs. The sandwich is $5.95, plus $0.50 for the veggies and it's on "good bread", not the stuff that makes you wonder what grocery store it's from. The eggs are $0.75 each. Not a bad deal at all, lunch will run you around ten bucks. That sandwich is really large enough to share, but, do not try any of that around us, we have a spork with which to consume our eggs and we know how use it! Parking can be scarce-ish, but, they do accept phone in orders. Just go in, queue up and pay (phoners cannot cut in front of counterers, it's just rude), as your order should be ready upon arrival.

So, we phoned in some bacon cheeseburgers and rings for ourself and a co-worker from Pete's Fine Meats on Richmond Avenue. Normally, a "go burger" is kinda listless by the time you get to where you're going with it - this one was not super hot, but still warm enough and juicy. The onion rings were not homemade, however, they...
