Houston rapper Pimp C was found dead this morning in his hotel room on LA's Sunset Strip. Pimp C had performed with Too Short on Saturday evening at the House of Blues. We were starting to wonder whether anything was going to happen with Houston Pavilions, the retail/entertainment/residential/office complex planned for three blocks on the south end of downtown. After all, the land sale was completed in mid-January, and we haven't heard much since House of Blues and Lucky Strike signed on as tenants. But now there is news: The developers have secured $140 million in financing and groundbreaking is set for Nov. 6.
A little over a year before we get our own House of Blues downtown, word comes that the famed music venue and restaurant has been acquired by Live Nation, the Clear Channel Communications entertainment company. It was a $350 million transaction. Live Nation claims that the acquisition will not affect the opening of Houston’s House of Blues, which is set for the fall of 2007 in a new entertainment district near the convention center downtown....
The future Houston Pavilions shopping and enrtertainment complex downtown has a new tenant: Lucky Strike, an upscale Hollywood-based bowling alley and bar. Lucky Strike will join anchor tenant House of Blues in the three-block development at Main and Dallas.
This has really been the month for speculation about Houston Pavilions, the proposed downtown retail, office and residential complex. First came the news that the land sale was complete for the three blocks HP is supposed to sit on, and then today we have word that House of Blues has signed on as the project's first major tenant.
