The Katy Freeway is still closed because of a chain-reaction accident near Highway 6 that reportedly left one person dead and othes injured. The accident happened about a mile west of Highway 6 and involved a truck carrying a wide load, KHOU reports. It's not clear what happened, but KTRK says the accident involved at least two big rigs, a deputy constable on a motorcycle and at least one car (the Chronicle's brief report says eight vehicles were involved). One car burst into flames, but it's not clear whether the person who was killed was in that car; Channel 11 says at least one motorcycle deputy escorting the wide load was taken to the hospital.
KPRC is reporting that a woman had to be rescued on the Katy Freeway this morning after a gravel truck overturned and dumped its load on top of her car. The truck reportedly overturned at about 10 a.m. on the eastbound freeway near Washington Avenue, trapping the woman inside her car.
