Houstonist still likes its classics, though. From the 90's, we have southern-flavored rock from Southern Culture On the Skids and a favorite from Ben Folds Five's album Whatever and Ever, Amen. Our sole 80's entry comes from L.A. new wave band The Sparks. Finally, one of our contributors has spent a little too much time in his 1975 Camaro: he suggested Led Zeppelin and Foreigner.

This looks to be the last big release week of the year, and 2007 is going out with a bang. We'll see you in '08!

Our picks for the month include a few new artists, including Illinois, White Rabbits and Coconut Records (which is actually a new moniker for Rushmore actor and Phantom Planet leader Jason Schwartzman); and tunes off the latest Go! Team, Son Volt and Over The Rhine records. In a typical case of money grabbing, the record companies had been trying to force Apple to charge more for songs or to implement variable pricing — more for songs by established artists, less for unknowns.

Attention hipsters: You can now use your iPod to drown out that annoying road noise while cruising around Montrose on your Vespa. From Engadget comes news of a do-it-yourself Vespa stereo system with an iPod dock. The system, which puts an amp and two 4-inch Alpine speakers in the glovebox space, fits Vespa Stella and P-series models. Up top is a dock for your iPod (or non-iPod audio player).
