In the span of four short years Houston will have quadrupled the number of all-sports radio stations gracing its airwaves. Come August 20, KILE 1560 AM will be renamed KGOW after local businessman and owner David Gow when it signs on with a sports and entertainment talk format. Branded as "The Game," KGOW will enter a saturated market that includes KILT (610 AM), KBME (790 AM), and ESPN Radio affiliate KFNC (97.5 FM) The new...

Good morning, Houston. Remember Radar, the adorable Channel 2 weather dog? If you're a Ken Hoffman reader, we can't imagine how you'd forget. It turns out someone in Tyler was a big fan of the idea: a TV station there has their own weather dog, Stormy. Stormy serves a function similar to Radar's and also wears an American flag bandana and takes ridiculous pictures. Just another reason to be glad you don't live in...

We'll admit that we're not exactly business-savvy, and we'd rather read the comics, or even Ken Hoffman, than the business section. But today, Mary Flood's column about car crash lawyers and advertising caught our eye. We were surprised to learn that Jim Adler, also known as "The Texas Hammer," has even established a presence on Myspace. And what an elaborate Myspace it is! Mary Flood's column said that his page played the theme from Rocky,...

Good morning, Houston. We're happy to report that we've found out the AIA and Google have combined two of our favorite things: architecture and Google Earth. Now there's a Google Earth layer featuring 3-D models of some of the structures on the AIA's list of America's favorite architecture, which brings desktop tourism to a whole new level. Among the buildings on the AIA layer: Pennzoil Place, the Astrodome and the Williams Tower, the three...

Wherefore art thou, Radar? This week KPRC dumped the lovable weather dog (sending Ken Hoffman into a tizzy, no doubt), and the mikemcguff blog chronicled it for us. Radar is moving on to bigger things though: he'll become the mascot for the John C. Freeman Weather Museum. The best part of this blog post is the speculation about Radar's uncontrollable barking during newscasts and the jealousy stewing in the hearts of KPRC anchors. We'll miss...

Houston's hometown rap impresario, and one half of UGK, Bun B joins the Movies Houstonians Love series at the Museum at Fine Arts tonight. Good morning, Houston. Today's question: How cool are you? According to Ken Hoffman, the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau is trying to find the 10 coolest people in Houston to form a focus group that'll help promote the city. Hoffman saw the list of nominees and wasn't impressed — but seriously, when was the last time anyone was impressed by one of the GHCVB's marketing plans? So here's the deal: If you can...

So we had heard about Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale's hip-hop Gallery Furniture "commercial" from Jamie Kennedy's Blowin' Up, but we couldn't have guessed quite how odd it really is. As Ken Hoffman explains: It's really not a commercial — it doesn't even mention Gallery Furniture. It's actually a clip from Jamie Kennedy's new comedy reality show on MTV called Blowin' Up. Kennedy is pretending to pursue a career in hip-hop, and Mattress Mack somehow,...

After being dissed by Channel 2 in the fall, anchor Linda Lorelle announced Friday she'll be resigning after 16 years at the station. Lorelle and Khambrel Marshall were demoted during a station shakeup in the fall: Lorelle was moved from the prime-time news to the afternoon, while Marshall was shuttled to the weekend newscasts.
