The quest for Houston’s best margarita continued forward last night with a stop at Picos Mex Mex, situated at the corner of Bellaire and Renwick.

We know it's only February, but we would like to prematurely speculate and say that Lightspeed Champion has released one of the most accomplished debuts of the year.

Houstonist is heading to Big Bend National Park this weekend to participate in our annual camping extravaganza called HookerFest (not those kinda hookers) by the participants and "the annual freeze your ass off trip" by non-believers. Never one to show up to a party without a contribution, we have been putting on our creativity caps for new and exciting libations each year.

This week saw the usual ho-hum type of Missed Connections with a few Halloween misses thrown in for good measure. Unfortunately, some posts were more depressing than others. Hopefully the following MCs will make you smile. I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW YOU SAY YOU LOVE ME! - w4m - 42 YOU DONT CALL U DONT EMAIL N THEN WHEN YOU DO YOU HAVE NOTHING OF WHT I ASK FOR - ALL I WANT IS THE...

Good morning, Houston. Sure, you've heard a lot about Alamo defender Davy Crockett — but have you ever read his final letter? Soon you'll be able to see it in person: The Texas Historical Commission has bought the letter, which was discovered in a file folder last month, for $550,000. Crockett wrote the letter to his children Jan. 9, 1836, shortly after he arrived in Texas and less than two months before he died...

Houston Shakespeare Festival That which we call a free show , by any other name would smell as free. Houstonist does not accept personal ads, including Missed Connections. Instead we prefer to ridicule the MC's found on Craigslist. However, every rule has an exception. "Barkley" is our one and only exception to this rule so don't get inspired. Remember me? I'm sure you do. I'm the cuddly, smart, laid back bitch that you last saw near Gessner and Bissonnet. I can't really recall why we split up. Maybe it was the thunder? We've...

Senior Time magazine columnist Joe Klein will speak tonight at the Wortham Center on Islam, Iraq, and the War on Terror. Klein is "one of America’s most astute observers of politics and international affairs" and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the author of a number of books, including his most recent Politics Lost: How American Politics Was Trivialized By People Who Think You’re Stupid, a tirade against political consultants in...

Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor kare_hr who captured this skater deep in thought. Lost love? Lost air? Lost ollie? Metrorail service changes are at a minimum, but keep these in mind:

The San Antonio Express News once called Hayes Carll "one of the most acclaimed young songwriters on the Texas scene," and it only takes one listen to Carll's debut album "Flowers and Liquor" to know what all the praise is about. Carll's lyrics are as expressively gritty as his fine-tuned Texas drawl. His songs reflect his chaotic life on the Bolivar Peninsula and life in Arkansas. Carll never had to recover a sophomore slump, and...

Have you ever lost something and wondered where it went? If you happened to be at Texas A&M, it might have been sold to someone else in the school's biannual Lost-and-Found Auction, which was held yesterday. The event, sponsored by a campus service group, lets people bid on a variety of items found on campus, from electronics to sporting goods to clothes — even a foosball table. Sure, the stuff might not always have been what buyers were looking for, but one has to be pragmatic about these things:

Houstonist apparently doesn't keep up with wildlife as much as we should — we didn't know the Houston area is home to two of 27 endangered species on the brink of extinction. The whooping crane and the Houston toad (which we'd never even heard of) are not only endangered, but exist in only one place on Earth, so researchers argue action should be taken immediately to protect them.

Houstonist does not buy into the whole guilty pleasure thing. Either like something or don't, we say. But , Bravo's reality TV fashionista slapfight, is almost enough to change that opinion. Houstonist tuned in each week not because we particularly liked the clothes, or Banana Republic, but because we had to have questions answered: Could Austin be any prissier? Could Robert be more useless? Could we possibly like Wendy less? The answer to all these questions was a resounding "Yes."

With the Texans' and the Rice Owls' seasons in the basement and the UH Cougars possibly headed to a baby bowl, it looks like the most football excitement in Houston this weekend is the Big 12 Championship. Though the game itself is sold out, there'll be plenty of events in town for you Longhorn and Buffalo fans — and everyone else: The Big 12 Championship Fan Fest kicks off at noon today and 9 a.m....
