The jovial traffic reporter, a familiar face to anyone who watched Channel 11 in the mornings, was given the pink slip this morning for reasons that are still unknown at this time. Douglas' smiling face was quickly removed from the staff page on KHOU's website, but his bio can still be accessed through a little Googling. His traffic blog is also still viewable on KHOU's website, but it's safe to assume that neither of those will be available for much longer. The native Houstonian attended the University of Houston and had been with the station for almost 13 years. [via HAIF]

Even though only a paltry 34% of Houston's television-watching households watched yesterday's Super Bowl -- the second-lowest amount out of 56 other cities -- those 34% were in for a delicious, sleazy treat in the form of this commercial for the mysteriously-named Ashley Madison Agency:

Fortunately, the media has embraced a new buzzword to replace — or at least temporarily displace — "hockey mom". Unfortunately, that buzzword (buzz phrase?) is none other than hunker down.

It's official: Houston is the best place to live in America. At least according to Kiplinger's Personal Finance, which placed Houston at the top of their list of Best Cities to Live, Work and Play for 2008.

The sun rose on a beautiful, windy day on Sunday. In the whispers of the wind, you could almost hear the encouragement, and smell the impending victory.
