The Starbucks Mixed Media Music Series at the Museum of Fine Arts hosts a new event tonight. In addition to enjoying the complimentary Starbucks coffee, you can also check out indie pop sensation Voxtrot supported by Car Stereo (Wars) and Houston's own The Mathletes. Spinning at the DJ booth is Skull Gang Disco. This all happens in conjunction with John Alexander: A Retrospective, an exhibition of the artist's politically charged landscape and abstract paintings. And in case you're worried about teenyboppers dancing amok and making you spill your coffee, it's OK — the party is 18 and up.

No matter your stance on NAFTA (Houstonist is of two minds when it comes to the 27% duty on softwood) the importing of Canadian music is a fine, fine thing, be it your New Pornographers, Arcade Fires, or Social Scenes of the Broken variety. So its with great excitement that we're telling you that the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in association with Starbucks, are bringing Chromeo, Montreal's greatest disco/funk/breakdancing mannequin band ever, to Houston....
If the Mixed Media Music Series at the MFAH a couple of weeks ago didn't quench your thirst for getting your groove on in the Museum Disrict, take heart: You have another chance tonight, and every Friday through Aug. 25, at the Houston Museum of Natural Science's Mixers, Elixirs & IMAX series.
After the huge success of their Beats of Basquiat series earlier this year, the MFAH, in association with Starbucks, presents the Mixed Media Music Series this Saturday night at the Audrey Jones Beck Building. Celebrate the launch of the highly anticipated new exhibit, Gee's Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt, with booze, free Starbucks coffee, and some hip hop music courtesy of LA's own Breakestra and a slew of Houstonian DJs. It will be one of the few chances you'll have all year to breakdance in a high art establishment, which is to say nothing of it also being the social event of the summer. Admission is free for museum members, $5 for students (with ID, natch,) and $10 for everyone else.
