An odd story from HPD headquarters: Early Sunday morning, officers shot and killed a woman who lunged at them inside the building's lobby. It happened just after 2 a.m., when 42-year-old Marnell Villarreal showed up at the HPD building at 1200 Travis wanting to talk to an investigator. According to KTRK, officers sent her away because she had brought a weapon into the building before. She paced outside for a while, then came back into... more ›

If you didn't know there was a new policy, well, you're not alone: KHOU reports that it learned about the policy change when frustrated police officers began calling the station last night — there was apparently no official word... more ›

A judge ordered today that Ashley Paige Benton, the 16-year-old girl accused of stabbing teen Gabriel Granillo to death at a Montrose-area park June 6, will remain in jail because her attorney believes she's in danger. Today's hearing was the second time Benton's lawyer, Rick DeToto, has said Benton has received death threats and could be at risk if she's released. more ›

If you have an outstanding traffic warrant in Houston, do we have some good news for you: Now you're 3 percent less likely to get arrested for it, thanks to the new computer system at the municipal courts. Seems the computerized document handling system has a glitch that means 3 percent of traffic warrants called in by police officers can't be verified, which means police can't make the arrests. The situation is a "minor problem," Sgt. Nate McDuell told KTRK: more ›
