Happy Halloween ghosts and ghouls! There’s a slew of great bands playing in Houston this week before heading up to a certain festival this weekend (hint: ____ ). We’ve got mega-celebs that have their own fragrances wrecking the Toyota Center in English AND Espanol on Wed., we’ve got huge indie bands Spoon and the New Pornographers teaching class on Thurs, and we have the Houstonist pick o’ the week: M.I.A. and Paul Wall on...

So, we teased you with a new video from Spoon last Friday. This week, we're giving you the real thing -- chance to win a pair of tickets to Thursday night's show at Warehouse Live. We're really looking forward to the concert, not just because of Spoon, but also because The New Pornographers are opening. Still haven't been Spoon-fed? (Sorry) Check out the streaming audio for their new album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. If...

Yes, the Spoon concert isn't until next Thursday, but Houstonist is really looking forward to it, so we thought we'd bring you the Austin band's latest video "The Underdog", from their CD Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Sure, the video isn't groundbreaking, but the song (and the whole album, actually) is. For those who aren't familiar with Spoon, where have you been? here's a little background for you. Britt Daniel, lead singer and guitarist,...

Our picks for the month include a few new artists, including Illinois, White Rabbits and Coconut Records (which is actually a new moniker for Rushmore actor and Phantom Planet leader Jason Schwartzman); and tunes off the latest Go! Team, Son Volt and Over The Rhine records. We also threw in some earlier favorites from Andrew Bird, Ray LaMontagne, and Neko Case (plus, we threw in her band The New Pornographers – yes, we have a thing for Neko). We figured that it’d be best to throw in a classic, too (Van Morrison). To wrap up the iMix, we included some whoopee-making music, courtesy of one of our favorite cable shows/bands, Flight of the Conchords.

No matter your stance on NAFTA (Houstonist is of two minds when it comes to the 27% duty on softwood) the importing of Canadian music is a fine, fine thing, be it your New Pornographers, Arcade Fires, or Social Scenes of the Broken variety. So its with great excitement that we're telling you that the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, in association with Starbucks, are bringing Chromeo, Montreal's greatest disco/funk/breakdancing mannequin band ever, to Houston....

Houstonist loves music, and we love sharing good music with you — that right there sounds like a '70s love ballad. We all got together to structure a list of our favorite albums of 2005. After lots of debating and a few bloody noses (OK, OK, Arcade Fire’s album was technically released last year, so we won’t include it — geesh!), we finally settled on our favorite albums of the year, in no particular order:...
