Good morning, Houston. It's November now, and you know what that means: We're at the beginning of nearly two straight months of Christmas. Retailers put their holiday decorations up early in hopes that shoppers will see them and get in the buying mood — but will it work? Not necessarily, if most shoppers are like Sharon Baker, who the Chron found at Macy's downtown. "I do like Christmas, but I need time to celebrate...

We talked yesterday about the body parts that were found in northwest Harris County in the past few days — remember, homicide investigators initially thought the decomposed parts (two hands and a foot) belonged to a human, but later they discovered they were actually bear parts. So, case closed, right? Well, it still leaves the question of where the bear came from and what it was doing so close to Houston. And so far, no...
We haven't had a good story about a Houston-related airplane disturbance since everyone's favorite co-pastor pitched a fit and got thrown off a Continental flight a year and a half ago — but Wednesday night, someone else made a stink and forced a Houston-bound Continental Express plane to make an unscheduled landing.
Holy smokes! Giant fish on the MTA, Paris Hilton in jail, then out, then in again, Al Gore, goatses, blumpkins, Matt Damon, and baby art critics! An update to this morning's story about Lisa Marie Nowak, the astronaut who was arrested yesterday after a bizarre cross-country drive to confront a woman she believed was after the fellow astronaut she had a crush on: Police in Florida are charging Nowak with attempted first-degree murder. The charge was announced after Nowak appeared in court this morning on charges of attempted kidnapping, attempted vehicle burglary with battery, destruction of evidence and battery.
We spend a lot of time on the internet. And occasionally, we run across something about this city or the state it's in that we like enough to share. So if you've got reflections on anything from why you're a Houstonian-not-a-Texan to why it is nobody ever says "Don't Mess With Rhode Island" with a straight face, send them our way. We'll use them in our new occasional series, Read This. Lilit Marcus is a...
