Three day weekends are a beast. You end the previous week by slacking in some fashion on Friday, since you're planning all the shennanigans you'll be committing over the weekend. Then you pick things up after the weekend with the realization that you've got to fit five days of work into four. Plus, it's cold and depressing (like a Packers fan on Monday) and that pretty much explains why a Monday feature is appearing on Wednesday. Here's what the blogs are saying about Houston sports this week.

Texas A & M has scheduled an 11 a.m. press conference today to announce that Houston Texans offensive coordinator Mike Sherman will be the next head coach. Sherman is returning to A & M where he was the offensive line coach from 1989-1993 and 1995-96. Sherman replaces Dennis Franchione who resigned after a 38-30 A & M upset win over rival Texas Longhorns. This is Mike Sherman's first college head coaching job, but he...

Houstonist has stumbled on something the Texans could have a chance at winning, but they need your help. Here's how it works: faithful Houstonians click for cans on the Campbell's website. After all the votes are in, the fine people at Campbell's will round up the winning team's official stats and donate one can of soup to the food bank of the team's choice for every pound the total team weighs. By our calculations, that's 17,948 cans if the Texans win. There's also a prize of 2006 cans of soup for the team that shows the greatest improvement in votes from last year. Complicated enough? We thought so.
In a surprise move, Texans Coach Gary Kubiak announced the trade of Vernand Morency to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for last year's fantasy darling Samkon Gado. Pending both players passing their physical, the trade could be completed within the next two days. Just who is Samkon Gado? Well for starters his name is pronounced SAM-kahn GAH-doh which translates to "Truth Inheritance" in Nigerian. After taking over for the injured Ahman Green and Najeh...

So, should the team try to lose? The Chronicle asked that question today, and the answer was a resounding "Hmm." Though she didn't come out and endorse...
