Morning_MetroBusRide_PenzoilPl062508 by xphaqtor We love sliver of sky and it's reflection as well as the angles and geometric post-modern design of Pennzoil Place at 711 Louisiana in downtown Houston. Completed in 1975 with dual 36 story structures, this building stands out in our gorgeous skyline as well as our Houstonist logo. ________________________________________________________________ Every day, Houstonist features an outstanding photo from our flickr pool. Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor slipshod snapshots. As the photographer's title suggests this is the often photographed pennzoil building, actual name, Pennzoil Place. According to HAIF, the building was completed in 1976 while the rest of the U.S. was in a recession and office space was not a hot commodity. But apparently this place was a hot commodity because the architects had to add two more......

Via Austinist, the American Institute of Architects celebrated its 150th birthday last month by surveying 1,800 randomly chosen Americans on what their favorite U.S. works of architecture were. An AIA panel then narrowed those choices down to come up with America's Favorite Architecture, a list of the 150 most popular structures in the country. As you'd expect, at the top of the list are a bunch of national icons: the Empire State Building, the......
