Remember last weekend's story about Norman Fulton, the man who fell 12 stories down an elevator shaft while trying to escape from a stuck elevator at his Galleria-area condo in December? The death might have been prevented if elevators in the building where Fulton lived had been equipped with door restrictors, which prevent trapped passengers from being able to pry open the doors of a stuck elevator car before trained rescue personnel arrive to help them. And according to KTRK, many Houston buildings don't have door restrictors on their elevators.
Another week, another change for Houston freeways: This time, the ramp to the West Loop northbound from Post Oak Boulevard will close — and it won't reopen until the end of the year.
As we at Houstonist started our day, the Buzz's Brother Rod was playing a crowd favorite "Drive Thru Sing-a-Long" during which courageous contestants festively sang "Deck the Halls," hoping an unknowing drive-thru attendant would chime in with the chorus. (We'll sing with you … fa la la la la, lala la la!) To our dismay, it took over an hour and countless attempts for someone to win this reindeer game. So where's the holiday spirit?...
Sure, festive decorations began going up around town in early October, but it just doesn't feel like Christmas until the lights are turned on along Post Oak Boulevard in Uptown. This is the 20th year the lights have gone on with a bang during the Uptown Holiday Lighting on Thanksgiving night.
