The last time we brought you Social-ist, we nearly ended up on National TV. Keyword being "nearly." But thanks to the damn terrorists, our appearance was shelved. We swear! Some people's priorities! Last night Houstonist scoped out Houston's own Project Runway winner Chloe Dao's Rice Village shop, Lot 8, for a Dress for Success fundraiser. From our count, most of the boutique's namesake, the eight Dao sisters, were in attendance, including sister Sydney, who can...

Ok, so Houston isn't the first city that comes to mind when one thinks of a fashion hot bed. But we are making strides in this department, thanks in part to hometown hero and Lot 8 owner Chloe Dao's win on Bravo's Project Runway last year. New Houston Boutiques such as Flounce (1624 Westheimer ), Wink (2429 Bissonnet), and Redstitch have got international designers taking a harder look at the Bayou City. With appearances in...
Last season, Houston's Chloe Dao was the winner of Project Runway, picking up a show at NYC's prestigious Fashion Week, a new convertible, and $100,000 to start her own line. You can check in on Chloe at Lot 8, her fab Village-area boutique, but if her prices are a little steep, get in on the ground floor of Season 3 of Bravo's fantastic reality show instead.
Sometimes you need to clean yourself up, get serious, and move in with daddie for a few months before you head to Latin America for a new gig. The District bid's Jenna Bush adios. D.C.-based television shows have an elderly audience and DCist has some suggestions to fix that. They're also throwing Butterstick the panda bear a birthday bash. Yeah, we may have a few issues with our World Cup broadcasters here, but this guy...
This is a busy week for Houstonian and Project Runway winner Chloe Dao. The DVD of her season of the hit Bravo show hit stores on Tuesday, and if she wants a copy, she’ll be buying it herself. (Chloe is apparently even paying for her flight to the premiere party for season three. At least she got a new car and $100,000 when she won the show.) Lucky for us, Chloe says on the DVD that she has no plans to leave Houston. Instead, she’s hoping she can create “a little fashion capitol” here.
Worried that Chloe Dao is going to leave Houston for promise of fame and fortune in New York or L.A.? Don't: She's in Houston and she plans on staying around. As the winner of the second installment of Project Runway on Bravo, Dao has scooped up some really spiffy prizes, but it's still not enough to take her away from Houston. After all, her Rice Village boutique, Lot8, has been doing great since opening in...
! After runway shows displaying all three finalists collections, it was down to the judges and their thoughts. Although it was a close race, our girl came out on top as the best designer from the group of 16 selected from thousands. Chloe will receive some fabulous prizes along with catipulting her name into the national media. Needless to say after the decision came down she was in shock and struggling for words. However one thought came to mind. Earlier in the season she had been critized as being a great pattern maker, but an average designer. Following her win, she had to point out the obvious — that they were dead wrong. Chloe plans to stay in Houston to expand her store and design her own line. Houstonist can't wait to see the new digs ...
Houstonist does not buy into the whole guilty pleasure thing. Either like something or don't, we say. But , Bravo's reality TV fashionista slapfight, is almost enough to change that opinion. Houstonist tuned in each week not because we particularly liked the clothes, or Banana Republic, but because we had to have questions answered: Could Austin be any prissier? Could Robert be more useless? Could we possibly like Wendy less? The answer to all these questions was a resounding "Yes."
