Last week the AIA hosted their annual home tour, and tomorrow the Downtown Houston Alliance is giving folks a chance to see residences in some of Houston's most historic and moneyed buildings. The Live Downtown Home Tour is from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, November 3rd. Stops on the tour include Commerce Towers, The Beaconsfield (not the Savoy across the street!), the Four Seasons, Hogg Palace (no, not this place), and several other loft properties....

We have to begin this week's Shelterporn with a disclaimer: Manhattan, Randall Davis' odd residential concoction across the street from the Water Wall, doesn't really suit our taste. But we'll freely admit that, if someone came to us and offered the keys to this penthouse in the building, we'd find it hard to turn down. Just saying. Access to the eighth-floor unit is through a 38-foot gallery that's perfect for hanging your art collection...

Issues with the development - dear to many Houstonians - is whether or not there will be adequate parking and increased traffic congestion. Lamesa has ensured that there will be public parking included in the plans, and that there is enough parking planned for the development itself. Area resident Bill Faloon though, is still worried. He said that the developers repeatedly have said they'll build with or without seizing Bolsover St., and also that he hasn't heard of any tenants signing on yet - that means there isn't an accurate way to assess true parking needs and traffic flow. Andy Icken, the city's Deputy Director of Public Works, seems to feel differently:

"Not to say the traffic in Rice Village isn't a difficult situation for people to navigate," but, he said, Sonoma and the closing of Bolsover should not make it worse.

Via Off the Kuff, Rice Village-area residents are a little ticked off by a sign advertising Sonoma, the residential component of the proposed Piazza mixed-use development just off Rice Boulevard. You remember that, right? It's the $100 million, seven-story behemoth for which a block of Bolsover Street will be closed, with 225 condominiums, 100,000 square feet of retail space and an underground parking garage. But according to the Examiner, it's not the size of the development or its impact on the neighborhood that are upsetting locals right now: It's residential developer Randall Davis's slogan, "Home to Bohemians, Attorneys and Hippies," that's painted across a storefront on the site of the development.
