In a Pew Research Center survey that was release at the end of January, Houston ranked 19th in a list of 30 cities Americans would most like to live. Now we've been crapped on before and we're getting used to the haters. Apparently the Minneapolis Star Tribune hasn't developed a thick skin yet, because in a recent commentary citing the Pew survey Bill Ward took jabs at several of the cities that ranked higher than their 26th place on the list. And what lovely things did he have to say about our fair city?

The big problem is sustainability and Houston are a tough mix. Houston's patented Everything-is-Bigger-in-Texas sprawl makes northern style population centers and public transit fairly untenable, and our sauna-like environment makes programs like the garden roofing subsidies in Chicago and Portland (both in the top five) a bad idea. But according to WorldChanging, the biggest problem might be ignorance, or just a lack of conversation. Its a big problem, but not so big that some innovative community action couldn't handle it. Houstonist's idea? Big freaking biodome.
Next time you're thinking about a trip to Dallas, don't just pack your Neiman's card — pack some heat. City Crime Rankings ranks Dallas as the fifth most dangerous city in the U.S. with a population over 500,000. Houston ranks ninth.
