Daily-ist Tuesday: The Secret Word

Yet another reading series, which apparently has been going on for a while but which Houstonist didn't know about until recently. This one is organized by the Starving Poets, and takes place every Tuesday night at Cafe 4212 in the middle of Midtown and the Third Ward. The weekly line-up looks interesting.

Houstonist continues to be impressed with the evening programming offered at the Central Library. From readings to craft classes to writing workshops, all for free, the library ain't just for nerds anymore, but of course, you already knew that.

  • Dock Dogs. Televised on the Outdoor Channel, DockDogs competition consists of dogs jumping into water from a designated dock with the largest or highest leap earning that canine a victory. Dogs and owners travel to Houston to compete, and the competition will be open to local dogs too. At Jones Lawn in Discovery Green. See schedule here
  • PRIDE, events throughout the weekend, culminating in the Houston Pride Parade at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, along Westheimer at Montrose.
  • Extremely Shorts 12 at Aurora Picture Show, Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. Aurora's most popular event, featuring dozens of films under five minutes and the annual Aurora Picture Show birthday picnic. Tickets $6-$12 for non-members, free for members on Saturday and $10 for members Sunday. At Molly Gochman's Studio, 2442 Bartlett St.

fans rejoice. Author Richard Brown, who won awards for both his books and his script-writing in what has been called the best show on television, will speak in Houston tonight as part of the Inprint Margarett Root Brown Reading Series. Price is the author of seven novels, including . He just released his first novel in more than five years, Lush Life, about life in modern-day New York City. But Price is perhaps most famous for his work on , HBO's wildly popular police drama set in Baltimore, MD. Price will be reading tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Alley Theater. The Inprint Brown Reading Series is one of Houstonist's favorite events in this town — Inprint has brought everyone from Malcolm Gladwell to Jeffrey Eugenides to Houston for readings. Tickets to the event are $5 but if you are a senior or student you can get free rush tickets at the door only, starting at 6:45 p.m. Richard Price Reading
