We just ran across this synergistic video that features Houston Dynamo midfielder Stuart Holden and Rockets point guard Kyle Lowry goofing off on the basketball court for an Adidas shoot. Holden shows Lowry a kick basket combo, as Lowry jokes about lowering the net for Holden.

That playoff run was swell and everything, but if you think that that Rockets are going to stand pat and take another bronze medal next year (and the year after...), then you don't know the manic machinations of GM Daryl Morey. Since Morey can't say anything about his shopping list, let's put on our amateur executive hat and see what pieces the Rockets can add this season and beyond.

Every time the Lakers, the national media, and even Houstonians like yours truly count the Rockets out, they find a way to change all our minds. After a forty-point drubbing in LA in game 5, the Rockets faced elimination last night at Toyota Center. In true Clutch City fashion, they hitched their wagon to Luis Scola and Aaron Brooks for a scrappy, emphatic win, sending the series back to Los Angeles.

As we've all seen, the Rockets v. Lakers series has had its ups and downs. One thing's for sure, though: It's good basketball, which is all the more reason to head over to Discovery Green tomorrow night (that's Thursday, 5/14) to cheer the Rockets on. The game will be shown on Disco Green's big inflatable screen right in front of the Anheuser-Busch stage; tipoff is at 8:30 p.m., but if you want to show up earlier, you can spend some quality time with The Hollisters (performing as part of the park's Thursdays Rock concert series). Seriously: Texas rock, sweet potato fries from the Lake House and basketball on a giant inflatable TV — what's not to love?

We were pretty disappointed to hear that there will be no embarrassing or silly mayoral bet on the Rockets/Lakers playoff series, but we're proud that it's through no fault of our own. Mayor White made an offer that we definitely wouldn't refuse: breakfast tamales from Villa Arcos, lunch at Frenchy's and, very appropriately, dinner at Yao's. Looks like Mayor Villaraigosa over in Los Angeles doesn't have quite the confidence in his team (or maybe his city's dining options) that Mayor White does --- he declined to take the bet. What gives, LA? Does Mayor Villaraigosa really think the Lakers are bound to lose like Miya Shay suggests?

Well, that took long enough. After failing to make it out of the first round of the playoffs since the waning years of Hakeem and Clyde's careers, after surviving the career of the woefully mis-nicknamed Stevie Franchise, after watching Tracy McGrady go back to the OR more often than House, M.D., the Rockets are in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Sports radio this morning is reporting that rookie Rockets forward, Carl Landry has been shot in the lower leg. First reports are stating that it's just a flesh wound and Landry is already out of the hospital. The incident took place early this morning after a possible car accident in which the other driver fired the shots. Landry was on a late night food run after the team had arrived back in Houston from a game in New Orleans.

ESPN did their take last week on the four best athlete's from each state. For Texas, Lance Armstrong, Earl Campbell, Nolan Ryan and Tom Landry were selected as Texas' Mt. Rushmore.

That's pretty much the only reasonable explanation for this odd announcing gaffe by Rockets great and current play-by-play guy Clyde Drexler.

Yes it’s a cliché that is rolled out time and time again whenever a Houston sports team finds itself in a heap of trouble. Yes it’s a cliché that citizens of our fair city loathe as much as red light cameras. But in this case it’s true.

Spring has sprung Houston - at least in terms of Daylight Saving Time. Hopefully your sleep pattern got back to normal last night. Apparently there is a risk of folks not sleeping enough now that daylight will be around longer in the evenings. Huh. We thought our sleep issues were due to staying out until the wee hours playing urban disc golf in Midtown.

Since joining TNT as an NBA studio analyst, former Houston Rockets star Charles Barkley has been quite the Negative Nancy when discussing the playoff chances of his old team. Year after year Barkley sits on his throne beside Ernie Johnson and Kenny Smith and waxes poetically about his displeasure over the play of Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, and the rest of the Clutch City cast. Most particularly, Barkley constantly expresses his displeasure at the play of McGrady, who entered the league with Jordanesque appeal, but has yet to carry a team passed the first round of the playoffs.

En route to a 117-99 road victory over the Indiana Pacers, the Houston Rockets set a franchise record with their 16th straight win last night. Courtesy of a stellar first half from Tracy McGrady (23 points by intermission), the Rockets went on a 15-0 run in the second quarter and overcame a third quarter surge by the Pacers to cruise to victory.

After a week off for prayer and fasting in the hope that Roger Clemens would finally appear in the media again, our supplications were heard and we feel up to posting this roundup again. >> Poll shows split over Clemens, McNamee: The court of public opinion currently stands divided in Harris County regarding the Roger Clemens steroid scandal according to a poll by The Chronicle. According to the results published yesterday by David Barron, 35.5 percent said believed McNamee; 32.8 percent sided with The Rocket; and, 31.7 percent did not respond. The margin of error is listed at 4.1 percent. These numbers may prove initially encouraging for Clemens with a Justice Department investigation looming in his future. However, the data seems to indicate that his support base is less educated than McNamee's. Does it really seem hard to believe that someone kept a beer can, dirty gauze and a used syringe for seven years?

Well, it was fun while it lasted. The Rockets, riding high on a 12 game winning streak going into tonight's game against the Wizards, will be without star Yao Ming for the rest of the season after Yao was diagnosed today with a stress fracture in his left foot. The team's medical staf will speak to the press later today, but the word from the nearly-infallible Chris Berman at Fox26 is that Yao will have surgery on the foot and won't play again this year.

West Texas, specifically Marfa, may be No Country for Old Men, but it certainly seems to be the place for making Academy Award winning films. Speaking of winning, one lucky Houston Fiesta shopper hit it big in the Texas Lotto.

Many of the NBA’s so called pundits have dismissed the Houston Rockets’ accomplishments in achieving a 10-game winning streak, by exclaiming that until the squad beat a team of true substance, they were simply taking advantage of an undemanding schedule. Talking heads around the nation have stated that Houston’s road match-up against the Western Conference leading New Orleans Hornets would be the true test to determine if the Rockets were legitimate playoff threats.

Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey may have been the busiest man not involved in a presidential election over the past two days. Less than 24 hours after trading Bonzi Wells and Mike James to the New Orleans Hornets, Morey was at it again. In what can only be dubbed as a swap of malcontents, the Rockets shipped Kirk Snyder and a 2nd round draft pick off to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for hometown Houston high school legend Gerald Green just moments before the expiration of the NBA’s trade deadline.

In a classic case of keeping up with the Joneses the Houston Rockets executed a player swap late last night with less than 24 hours before the expiration of the NBA’s trade deadline. As their Western Conference cohorts have made headlines over the last three weeks with the acquisitions of All-Star talent such as Shaquille O’Neal (Suns), Jason Kidd (Mavericks), and Pau Gasol (Lakers), the Houston Rockets found their crusade to climb in the playoff standings becoming that much more difficult. Therefore in order to keep up with the ever-changing landscape of the West, Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey made a deal of his own, though not quite on the league-shattering level as his foes. Houston sent forward Bonzi Wells and guard Mike James to the New Orleans Hornets in return for point guard Bobby Jackson, rookie guard Adam Haluska, and the higher of New Orleans’ two second-round picks in the 2008 NBA Draft (one of which previously belonged to the Rockets and was given to the Hornets in a trade last year to acquire Carl Landry).

Former Houston Rockets legend Hakeem Olajuwon has been named amongst the 15 finalists for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Arguably the face of Houston sports, the Dream has been synonymous with the Bayou City since first emigrating from Nigeria in 1980 as a skinny prospect with a world of potential.
