Staying in for New Year’s Eve? Log on to the internets at 11pm to watch Radiohead perform their new album, In Rainbows, on Current TV. The webcast will air three more times on Tuesday for those of you who spend the night out on the town.
Hey Houston, do you want your MusicTV? No, we’re not talking about the reality TV channel of the same name, although we admit we have watched that ridiculous Lauren-Heidi melodrama on occasion. (Actually, we don't miss an episode, but we're not proud of ourselves!) Each week, we’ll give you the 411 on televised music performances that are so good, they’ll almost make it worth your while to sit through Jay Leno’s monologues! Monday -ABC, 11:05pm:...
Houstonist landed her after departing from a small media market town where the most colorful television news personality was the local weatherman with the bad toupee - think Brick from Anchorman. Naturally we were blown away by the loud delivery, blue sunglasses and long earlobes that were Marvin Zindler. His ear splitting delivery of his tag line - "MAR-vin ZINDLER, EYE-witness NEWS!" - emblazoned the phrase in the memories of Houstonians despite hearing it only...
Well into the first week of the rodeo, we’ve seen performances from George Strait, Los Lonely Boys, and Reba. Tonight is Black Heritage Day, featuring Natalie Cole and R&B singer and songwriter KEM. So, we thought we’d feature Natalie Cole’s biggest hit, a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac” most memorable song and video, her 1991 studio produced “duet” with her father, Nat “Unforgettable.” Natalie was apprehensive about capitalizing on her father’s name for...

Let's look back at a week in which no site in the -ist network adopted anyone from Africa... -Austinist reveled in the dumb antics of some U.T. law students and posted some great audio from former New Orleans natives who've decided to stay in Austin. But the best news for Austinist? They were voted Best Local Entertainment Web Site by the local Austin alt-weekly. Congrats, Austinist. -DCist gloried in being told their musical tastes made...
Houston native singer-songwriter Billy Preston has died at age 59. Preston was the only artist to receive label credit on a Beatles single, and his collaborations with the Fab Four over the years gave him the "fifth-Beatle" nickname. Preston continued to work with George Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr after the Beatles breakup. He also joined the Rolling Stones on tour in the early 70's. As a solo artist, he's best known for...
Houston institution Radio Music Theatre is three darn funny people with their tongues firmly in cheek. The talented comedic troupe has been making Houstonians laugh since 1985, and their work's been featured on Saturday Night Live and, for those who eschew latenight viewing, on NBC News with Tom Brokaw. Their annual summer show this year is "Hotter Than Houston", which is the story of Stan, a 70s-era Californian and the victim of a carwreck. He's not good enough for heaven and not quite bad enough for hell, so where does St. Peter send him?
Yesterday in the Lay/Skilling trial, defense lawyers hit witness Kevin Hannon right where it hurt: in the funny bone. Hannon, the former CEO of Enron Broadband Services, testified Thursday that ex-Enron CEO Jeff Skilling told executives during a May 2001 meeting, "They're on to us," referring to a Wall Street investment firm questioning Enron's earnings. On Monday, Skilling lawyer Mark Holscher asked Hannon whether Skilling might not have made the statement sarcastically: "Anything's possible," Hannon...
