It's that time again, where we scrub the internet clean of all the Houston music news we can find. Let's see what's going on in that wide world of 600 square miles, shall we? more ›

If you fancy some Japanese rock, check out Fantasys Core tonight at Walter’s on Washington (our own Motion Turns It On opens). It’s been ten years since Shawn Mullins' “Lullaby” was a big hit. Mullins sound is more on the Americana/folk side these days, and you can hear for yourself tomorrow night at the Mucky Duck. Friday night, Warehouse Live has an eclectic mix of local music, including one of our favorites, Two Star Symphony. If you’d rather punk-out that night, head to Walter’s on Washington, where Something Fierce headlines. Finally, Kinky Friedman stops at the Duck on Saturday night. He’s not running for governor anymore, so he has little incentive to censor himself. more ›

When it comes to music in Texas, we all know that Austin pretty much has the scene in an awkward and uncomfortable chokehold position. Between South by Southwest, ACL and Fun Fun Fun fests, the state capital has music festivals down to a science. But instead of making that trek up 290 and finding the perfect seat between the broseph who can't stop talking about how cool it would be if DMB was on... more ›

Instead of vegging in front of the TV, or fighting the crowds at the mall, we suggest one of these concerts to pass away your holidays. Houston’s Allen Oldies Band is celebrating their 10th anniversary Wednesday night, allowing you to dance off some pounds before you fill up on turkey. Some great original local bands to catch this week include The Dimes and Something Fierce at Walter’s, and Ryan Scroggins’ ska band at Fitz.... more ›

This summer’s Houston Calling happy hour was such a success, that the blog is organizing another one with a new array of bands for this coming Monday, Oct. 23rd. Once again, some of Houston’s best local bands will be featured: the rock-flavored Bright Men of Learning, punk-rock Something Fierce, and alternative-rock Southern Backtones. You can preview these bands through this podcast. Houston Calling is a branch off the Done Waiting music website, and is focused... more ›

So you’re back at work after a weekend of debauchery and trying to keep your New Year’s resolutions intact. Hopefully one of those resolutions was to see more live music – we’re happy to help you with that: Thursday The Wainwrights are one musical family – not only do you have Loudon, but his kids Martha and Rufus.
