Yes, Houston - The Black Godfather is gracing us with his presence this Friday night!!! Houston's own, The Allen Oldies Band will be backin' up Andre Williams at the Continental Club and the show begins at 10 p.m. You don't know who he is? We'll hook you up. A ladie's man from way back, Andre was born in Bessemer, Alabama in 1936 and eventually ended up in Detroit, where he recorded over 50 songs for Fortune Records. He has worked for Barry Gordy and produced records for Stevie Wonder and Ike and Tina Turner. In addition to his own songs, he has written material for George Clinton's Funkadelic. Now, Chi-Town is where he makes his home. Some of his material includes "Shake A Tailfeather", "Bacon Fat", "JailBait" and "Pass the Biscuits". As if this weren't intriguing enough, you really need to see "raunch rock" for yourself, so head on over to the Continental Club for some serious good times tomorrow night.

It was your typical Friday night on the 3700 block of Main. There were bands playing at both The Continental Club and Shoeshine Charley's Big Top Lounge, The Mink was minding its own business serving drinks and Tacos-A-Go-Go were catering to their usual crowd of taco munchers when the evening started to really get hot! Hot as in flaming barrel hot. Houstonist Flickr photo contributor and resident photographer for The Continental Club, Jay Lee caught this event as it happened and has full details on his blog.

You see, we had the fortune of spending the last 6+ years in a magical faraway land where you can't walk ten yards without tripping over a breakfast taco, and we've come to rely on this humble meal for energy, strength, and even happiness. We immediately looked up the nearest taco location on our Gastronomic Positioning System and soon found ourselves at Tacos A Go-Go.

It's a special edition of the Houstonist Flickr Photo of the Day. These photos are from our Light Rail Pub Crawl. Did you make it out? If so, you might be in one of these shots. If not, check out the photos to see what you missed. We had a great time Friday night. Our host and Houstonist staff member, Jason Bargas, took us to places along the MetroRail line. We stopped at The Flying...

Tonight's the night!!!! Yes indeedy, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the Houston Roller Derby girls will be in the 3700 block of Main Street at several of the very cool businesses, peddling, and signing, their calendars. It's like a treasure hunt - find the skater, get the autograph! So, it's almost but not quite, too late to get a really sweet gift, and have it autographed.

So here's a weird story from northeast Harris County overnight: When a wrecker driver repossessed a man's car — or stole it? — he and the car's owner ended up in a high-speed chase that resulted in gunplay and the destruction of a taco stand.
