The Big Easy is "the place to be" for all party-goers this Sunday afternoon! Local blues legend, Earl Gilliam - the best Blues organist alive, is home from a two-month stay in the hospital. In December, 2008, Earl suffered an initial, partial-lung collapse which he recently had surgically corrected, hence the long hospitalization. The Big Easy is having a huge party, this Sunday, October 4th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., as over 15 Blues and Zydeco bands and musicians will be taking the stage to help raise monies for the Gilliam's to offset their medical expenses. Sponsored by The Big Easy, The Houston Blues Society, and the Blues DJ's from 90.1 KPFT, along with a good number of volunteers - this promises to be a fantastic party. more ›

We know it's late notice, and we do apologize - but, we had to alert all blues hounds to tonight's show. Earl Gilliam Blues Revue will be at The Big Easy tonight from 9:30 p.m. until 1:30 a.m. and this should be a fabulous set!! Earl, a Texas Blues pianist/organist (78 years of age) will team up with veteran Blues guitarist, and youngster, I.J. Gosey (he's only 71) and they'll be backed up by Fred Arceneaux and Jackie Gray. To give you a lil' background, Earl has played with Lightnin' Hopkins, Joe Guitar Hughes, Johnny Clyde Copeland, Clarence Gatemouth Brown and T-Bone Walker among others. He first recorded in 1955 on Sarg Records (Willie Nelson and Doug Sahm's first label) as one of only two Black artists on the label at the time. I.J., a session player with historic Duke-Peacock Records in Houston during the 50's and 60's has an impressive background, as well. So, if you love the Blues, Texas Swing, Classic R&B and a touch of Zydeco and can operate within our fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants schedule, hit The Big Easy for this venue. more ›
