Houston's one-man music automaton Jon Read - better known around town as The Wiggins - is not for the faint of heart, but it sure does make us happy. When one advertises one's music with the tagline, music made in a dirty bathtub, it piques our interest. [Note to other bands: you may have to find a subsequently more catchy phrase]

Shebus! We've let a whole month go by without posting Rock Talk, and we're most apologetic. SXSW threw off our schedule originally, and right when we were ready to get back into the game, the now notorious theft occured. We've still been hoarding news, however - and while you may have read some of this elsewhere already, we're more than happy to relay it to you.
Welcome to yet another installation of Rock Talk! It's been too long, but we have to blame our day job for that transgression. In the meantime, Houstonist has a boatload and then some of music news for you all. Someone find us a bigger boat.
Houstonist got waylaid by car troubles this week [you would not believe how hard it is to find a pair of 15" 20-spoke alloy wheels for a '92 Volvo in this town], but we've been cribbing notes the whole time. Rock Talk might be a day late, but it is definitely not a bit short. Here's your weekly update on the Houston scene.
Look, we're gonna make this one real easy for you. No thinking involved. Music. Art. Community. And a scientist who raps about space travel to a power point presentation. See? Simple. Houston, Our Ears Depend on You, this Saturday at Diverseworks, materializes Rice Radio's KTRU's presentation of Ashmathitic Kitty's 4th Unusual Animals party. Huh? See, we told you we were gonna make it simple. Just trust us. Or, just keep reading. DiverseWorks is excited to...
So many good shows this week, that we don’t have enough space to highlight all of them. Tonight, our pick is the pure pop sounds of Office tonight at The Mink (congratulations to Cynthia for winning tickets through us!). Singer/songwriter fans will have a touch choice Thursday night – Ryan Adams makes a rare Houston appearance at Verizon Wireless and former Toad the Wet Sprocket front man Glen Phillips plays two shows at the...
> There are a lot of great acts in town this week with something for everyone's musical taste. The "big radio" shows include Rush, Nickelback, Puddle of Mudd, Korn, and Evanescence all of which take place outdoors at the Woodlands pavillion. Please remember it is still very hot...even at night. For those not wanting to face the night sweats, check out Texas indie rockers Centro-Matic on Wednesday and Eisley on Thursday. But to really get...
The big show this week, of course, is the reunion of The Police. But if you don’t feel like paying $100 to see Sting sing songs he sings at his solo concerts too (OK, yes, it’s different since Summers and Copeland are with him, but is it that different?), then you can opt for some other good shows Friday night: singer/songwriter Radney Foster (now writing hits for other people) plays two shows at the...
Tonight, Norah Jones plays in a very suitable place, Jones Hall. The show is sold out, but with M. Ward opening, it’s one that may be worth getting tickets for. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club returns to Houston on Thursday. Rock legend Dave Mason hits The Meridian Friday night, while former Rock Star: Supernova contestant and Austin native Patrice Pike visits Fitzgeralds. Another great double bill comes to us on Sunday night – The Black...
Before we get into this week's calendar, here are some upcoming concerts recently added that you may want to snag tickets for in advance: The Shins – 3/6 @ Verizon Wireless (on sale today @ 5 p.m.) The Toadies – 3/14 @ Verizon Wireless (reunion show) My Chemical Romance – 4/14 @ Reliant Arena Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – 4/26 @ Warehouse Live As for this week: if you want some Willie on...
The week starts off with some holiday shows. The country-flavored annual Christmas songwriter’s showcase kicks off tonight with some great Texas artists, including Radney Foster, Roger Creager and Randy Rogers. Also tonight, brother/sister act Trish and Darin hold their annual dinner show (yes, Trish is making dinner – seriously) at the Duck. Husband/wife team Kelly Willis and Bruce Robinson will play their holiday shows the following two nights at the Duck. We also recommend...
