Each week Houstonist checks out the Missed Connections on Craiglist. Here's a few that we found interesting.

For once, there's a reason to watch 60 Minutes beyond Andy Rooney's senile rants. Everyone's favorite hometown anti-hero, Roger Clemens, will be featured on Sunday's episode of the ABC news magazine, talking with his personal friend Mike Wallace about the steroid use allegations that surfaced as part of the Mitchell Report last month. Ever since the report came out, Clemens has issued a series of denials, starting with a press release, working up to a YouTube video, and culminating with a softly-lit sit down on prime time tv. Fortunately for those of us with better things to do on a Sunday evening, some of the juicy denial details have already been leaked.
Some people consider Sunday the beginning of their week, we usually like to look at it as a great lazy way to wrap up a hectic 7 days, and prepare for the next round. We've decided to pull together a list of events that are ending today, so now's your chance to catch these before they are gone for ever. Kinda like last week. Bwah-ha-ha. Thoroughly Modern Millie | Playhouse 1960 The Sound of Music...
Just a couple of days after the Chronicle's Matt Stiles reported that HPD was still ticketing drivers for having license plate frames despite a new law meant to prevent them from doing so, Mayor Bill White said the police department should knock if off, calling the practice of writing tickets for obstructed license plates a "gotcha system." The 2003 law that technically allowed police to ticket drivers for having obscured plates was apparently intended to...
El-P Performs at Numbers Tonight Happy Memorial Day, folks. If you are like us, your would like to negotiate for another weekend without so much rain. We are preparing the petition. One of our favorite things to do while it rains (or pretty much any other time), oh get your minds outta the gutter, is catch some live music indoors. Last night's Elliot Lipp show at the Proletariat, really got us in the mood....
City Council candidate Roy Morales probably has more important things to do than deal with a signmaker who has accused him of not paying $1,000 he owed for signs made during the 2005 election. The printer, Michael Franks, says that Morales also owes him $4,000 from this year's election. Morales didn't deny that he owed Franks the money. The Morales campaign told ABC's Miya Shay that they were working out a payment plan with the...
The Houston Dragon Boat Festival kicks off at 8:30 tomorrow morning and promises a day full of exciting races as well as a celebration of Asian culture. Teams will race along Buffalo Bayou in traditional Hong Kong-style dragon boats about every 15 minutes beginning at 9 am. In between races, there will be plenty of other exciting things to do and see. Performers include Kaminari Taiko Drummers, an Ismaili Pipe Band, and Korean Farm Dancers...
Houstonist is gearing up, with Spring. It is time to grill, and we adore cooking out. So, when you want to fire up the grill, and you are tired of the usual chicken and steaks, try some pork loin. This is one of our favorite things to do. We kinda "came up with this" with what we had in the fridge a couple of years ago, and liked it so much, we do it often....
The Get Off Your Lazy Butt List Hey there, Houston, look outside. No, you haven't died and are now seeing heaven — it's our fair city with sunny skies, low humidity and a cool breeze. In light of that, don't do anything inside that you don't have to. As soon as you leave your office/jail, head outdoors and stay there. Houstonist would like to offer our suggestions for your afternoon activities. Because we are...
First Saturday in the Heights & Yale Street Arts Market Heights First Saturday is a day full of shopping, activities, and food designed to bring people from all over the city to the Heights area. This month, in addition to their usual self-proclaimed "small-town cool," will be featuring sign-up for spring classes at HITS Theater, a Heights area food pantry drive, and Buchanan's Blood Drive. Their website features more information about drop-off places for the...
In Houstonist's adolescence, we didn't have the Internet — we were forced to amuse ourselves by playing Connect Four, watching "The Facts of Life" and finding creative things to do with sticks and mud. But these days, kids can do almost anything on the Internet — including tattling on their classmates, thanks to an anonymous email-based system in place at several local schools.
Transplanted Houstonian Stephanie reads Phillyist all the time and thought coming home for the summer would be a ton more fun if we started our version of one of their features: a list of things to do each week on the cheap. Everything on this list'll be $10 or less, so we're calling it "Fun for a Hamilton". Thanks for the idea, Stephanie ... enjoy! Friday, June 9th Meg Cabot, author of The Princess Diaries,...
We love the Historic Houston Heights. We admit it. And pretty much any news about it, for Houstonist, is good news. On Feb. 8, someone got some very good news and won the $64 million Texas Lotto grand prize and the ticket came from a Heights-area store.
