Several notable musicians/bands have some from Norman, Oklahoma; including The Flaming Lips and (on the other side of the spectrum) Toby Keith. But, there’s another band hailing from that city that hasn’t (yet) received the notoriety of the above mentioned – Starlight Mints. Starlight Mints is pure indie-pop (definitely more in line with The Flaming Lips than Toby Keith, of course). The quintet looks beyond the usual guitar/keyboard/drum mix. They add strings, bells and other... more ›

Some of the showcases you can check out include Super Happy Fun Land's nightly extravaganza and Alternative Press brings you "Bands you Need to Know" on Friday at the Meridian. On Sundays, Houstonist runs opinion pieces relevant to life in Houston. The opinions expressed below are entirely those of the author. Check out this list: Xavier Regan Joel Mr. Peepers Bob Who are these people? Guys I’ve slept with? Coworkers? Members of my skeet shooting team? Not all the women look like Xtina, and you might not want to talk politics with Toby Keith (he's actually a democrat!), but... more ›

That would seem like good fuel to sell scores of tickets for venues on their tour, right? Apparently not, at least in the United States. Houston, along with St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Indianapolis, and Memphis have either been cancelled or postponed due to lack of ticket demand. St. Louis' Savvis Center website reads:... more ›

More bad news for Tom Delay (R-Sugar Land)… it seems that if he ran for election today, he’d lose to an unknown Democrat. The question was: If Tom DeLay runs for re-election in 2006, in general, are you more likely to vote for the Republican candidate Tom DeLay or for the Democratic Party's candidate for Congress?
