We've already told about the concerts we're most excited about this week: Peter Bjorn and John at Warehouse Live and local artist Ethan Durelle at Fitzgerald's, both this Friday night. We also told you about Tori Amos' visit to Jones Hall this Sunday. If that's not enough for you, a lot of local acts are leaving their parent's dinner table early and playing some great shows all throughout the holiday weekend. Maybe you should...

Today’s Photo of the Day comes from flickr user and Houstonist photo contributor The Gallery who says, "I like this shot...." and we say, "So do we!" It's a statue of Diana The Huntress located in the MFAH's Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, tucked away off of Memorial at Westcott. A great aerial photo of the collection can be found here on Google Maps. According to found information on the web Diana The Huntress,...
It’s the inevitable curse of the holidays. You will gain weight. You will more than likely eat your weight in turkey and yams, and it will land squarely on your thighs (or hips, or stomach). If you’re like us, you’ll just look at your mom’s apple pie and your pants will get tight. If you want to make it out of the Thanksgiving holiday not looking like a Butterball, you should check out fitsugar.com. It’s...
Let's face it: If you're not cooking on Thanksgiving Day, there's not a whole lot to do (except, of course, when you're eating). Enter Thanksgiving TV, your best buddy for Turkey Day — and an essential part of your post-meal nap in your favorite recliner. Start Thanksgiving Day with three parades: the H-E-B Holiday Parade from downtown Houston, the Macy's parade from New York and the WLS Thanksgiving Day Parade from Chicago. The main...
Whoopee! Thanksgiving is nearly upon us. Unfortunately this also means that holiday travel, and all the stress that goes with it, is also nearly here. The Turkey Day season is the busiest travel period of the year.

Houstonist is preparing to lose ourselves in a sea of turkey, cranberry sauce, yams and pumpkin pie. But before we do, here's a look at some of today's non-football TV highlights:
- The History Channel takes a look at what the first Thanksgiving was
Yellville, Arkansas hosts a “Turkey Trot Festival” each year. Up until 1989, it included dropping turkeys out of a low-flying plane. It inspired the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati to write the script for the popular 1978 Thanksgiving episode where Les Nessman reported live while turkeys were being dropped from a helicopter onto the streets of Ohio (“As God as my witness, I thought turkey’s could fly,” said Station Manager Arthur Carlson, played by Gordon Jump)....
Don't forget on Turkey Day morning that the 56th Annual Washington Mutual Thanksgiving Day Parade will be rolling through downtown Houston. We at Houstonist love a good parade and, though ours may not be the biggest, we're one of the few parades in the country that can be enjoyed while wearing a t-shirt (the National Weather Service is calling for a temperature in the upper 70s in the afternoon. It should be in lower 60s when the parade starts with maybe a few clouds).
