So maybe you're like us and lacking in companionship on Valentine's Day. Maybe you're like us and just a wee bit distressed about the prospect of having no one to share chocolate-covered strawberries with this evening? Maybe you're even like us and plan to go out with your friends tonight to drown your sorrows in a river of Apple Martinis?
We'd like to start this week's run-down by wishing a very happy birthday to parent blog Gothamist, which turned four on Friday. If it wasn't for them, the rest of us wouldn't be here. They celebrated their birthday by nabbing an interview with Entourage star Adrian Grenier, who misses NYC public transportation when he's working in LA. They also reported on NYU students protesting a band whose name is also known as a slur,...
Good morning, Houston. Remember all the hype surrounding Y2K? Well, it looks like we're in for it again, on a smaller scale: Daylight Saving Time will begin three weeks earlier than usual this year, which could confuse the heck out of computer software that was programmed before 2005, when the law changing the DST date passed. Call it DST2K ... 7. Whatever. Anyway, older software was programmed to change the time the first Sunday...

Houstonist loved Valentine's Day as a child - poking all the chocolates in the Whitman's Sampler box Mama Houstonist "hid" on the refrigerator - gotta get the good ones! Now that we are all grown up, things are more serious and any Houstonian in love or like needs to impress that special someone with a fancy or just romantic dinner (flowers, gifts, sparkles, cards - at least a stinking card). If you haven't made the...
In preparation for Valentine's Day, Cupid was lifting them up and knocking 'em down all over Houston, as evidenced by Houston's Missed Connections. Enjoy a little reading, and then go forth, spreading post-VD love all over our fair city. Just make sure it isn't the STD kind.

Might we suggest a personalized Valentine delivered by three Houston Texans cheerleaders?

Good morning, Houston. Are you running around on your wife/husband/significant other? Better look out: Valentine's Day is prime time for catching cheaters. The reason? If you have two or three (or six or seven) boy/girlfriends, you're likely going to need to see all of 'em on the 14th — so be careful. Or, y'know, just stick with the monogamy thing. >> The doctor is ... in?: Eric Scheffey, one of the most-sued doctors in...
Valentine's Day is only a few days away, and we here across the Gothamist network wanted to express would like to tell you, in the spirit of the holiday, just how much we love you, our readers. Did you buy a Hallmark card for Valentine's Day this year? Chances are you got the same one most of your friends — and most urban Americans — did. Hallmark was surprised to find that its card V330-5 was the top-selling valentine in virtually every U.S. city, proving either that Americans are terribly un-original, that the card was exceptionally well-designed or that it was the least sucky of this year's options. (Based on recent trips to the card shop, Houstonist is betting on the third option.)
Well, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. The romantic in Houstonist thinks it’s a great way to show our sweetie how much we love them; the cynic in us thinks it was a holiday created by Hallmark. If you fall into the latter category, read on …
