Our picks for the month include a few new artists, including Illinois, White Rabbits and Coconut Records (which is actually a new moniker for Rushmore actor and Phantom Planet leader Jason Schwartzman); and tunes off the latest Go! Team, Son Volt and Over The Rhine records. We also threw in some earlier favorites from Andrew Bird, Ray LaMontagne, and Neko Case (plus, we threw in her band The New Pornographers – yes, we have a thing for Neko). We figured that it’d be best to throw in a classic, too (Van Morrison). Last year, Houstonist missed its first Austin City Limits music festival, due to a little nuisance named Rita. We were all prepared to go, but decided that the 20+ hour drive to our state’s capitol wasn’t worth the money we spent on the tickets. We heard that we missed some great shows, and sandstorms. Most are familiar with HD (high-definition) television, which will become the standard for TV over the next few years, but not everyone knows about HD radio. At the beginning of the year, Clear Channel Communications debuted HD radio for some of their local frequencies. More recently, non-profit KUHF premiered their HD frequency.
