Houstonist likes volunteering for good causes. We also like concerts that are free. Boost Mobile RockCorps is offering both, with the pay off being a ticket to see Taking Back Sunday next month at Warehouse Live. RockCorps was founded less than 5 years ago, in hopes to inspire volunteerism in young adults, encouraging them to be active in local community activities. Since the non-profit group also believed in the power of music, they teamed up......

Looking for something to do with all that spare time? We know, we don't exactly have much spare time, either. However, there are some great volunteer opportunities available for those of you who are so inclined. First, we'd like to tell you about a long term, or ongoing commitment where there is a need to fill that serves the community by assisting those less privileged. The Christian Community Service Center's Emergency Services Program needs some......

The Art Car Parade requires about 400 volunteers, in order to go off without a hitch. The parade is Saturday, May 12th, and the volunteer recruiting is getting off with a bang tomorrow with a Kick-Off Party at the Whole Foods in West University, located at 4004 Bellaire Boulevard @ Weslayan. Essentially, there will be a big parking lot party from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with food, music, schwag giveaways and some art cars......

The easiest way to give back, or pay it forward, as well as the least expensive, is to give some of yourself and your time to a good cause. We have apprised you of the International Festival's need for bodies to make the festival a success. Now, we have a little environmental action for you, and it's educational, in addition to the warm fuzzy you'll get. Much of the litter that makes it's way......

Last month, Houstonist excitedly announced this year's line-up for iFest. We figure by this time, you've had enough time to decide which of these great acts you'll want to see, and are now looking for a way to save $13 generously volunteer your time to the festival. The Sister Cities of Houston are looking for volunteers at the wine tent that they man (or WOman) annually. Sister Cities are official relationships that link cities......

Registration for AIDS Walk Houston 2007 is open, and even though the event doesn't happen till March 11th, it's not too early to get involved. Houston is having one hell of an Arbor Day and you too can be a part of it (you just have to get your hands a little on the dirty side). Arbor Day was established in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton of Nebraska City, Nebraska. It seems that the Nebraska Territory was not readily settled, due to the lack of trees on the tallgrass prairie (the better to build and heat cabins - log cabins,......

We know you've always dreamed of being able to give back to your fellow man and swill some tasty brew while doing it. You've held those dreams in check since you were informed that using a power saw and drinking a beer don't exactly meld together at Habitat for Humanity. Fortunately, Houstonist's favorite local brewery stepped up and created a position for us dreamers: Saint Arnold's Brewery tour Volunteer. Brewery tours are held each Saturday......

Houstonist had no idea what the Adopt-a-Stop program was until it was mentioned in one of our favorite Chronicle features, Move It!, on Monday. It works much like adopting a block or a mile on the highway, but Adopt-a-Stop works to keep neighborhood Metro bus stops looking spiffy. According to Metro, there are about 12,000 bus stops scattered throughout the city, and keeping them clean and graffiti-free is quite a task. When an individual or......

Houstonist will be taking Thanksgiving off, but that doesn't mean you should. There are plenty of places all over the city that need volunteers to do everything from deliver meals to carry balloons this week. Here are just a few: TXU Energy is sponsoring a 5K Fun Run that benefits Sheltering Arms, an agency that provides a wide array of services for the elderly. Volunteers are needed to help with registration, set-up, water stations, etc.......
