Okay, photographers, try to ignore the painfully tight jeans and embarrassingly mop-like 'do for just one moment - '80s arena rocker and power balladeer Billy Squire wrote a song just for you. You got it. Everybody wants you. Oh, you're so used to being in such high demand, aren't you? And who wants you now, pray tell, Houstonist? Well, none other than the United Way of Greater Houston. "But Houstonist," you ask, scratching your head... more ›

Remember Dan Duncan, the founder of pipeline company Enterprise Products Partners and the richest man in Houston? He's in the news again today, but this time it isn't for his wealth. The refuge will releave overcrowding at the current Portway St. 5 acre shelter that has been home... more ›

Harris County Commissioners Court appointed Lanier on a unanimous vote. But it came after County Judge Robert Eckels made a motion to appoint Leroy Hermes, a local architect and chair of the University of Houston board of Regents. That motion failed.... more ›

At Houstonist, there are few things we love more than getting wrapped up in pointless trivia. It helps us refine our witty cocktail party banter — or ensures we don’t get invited to any more cocktail parties — and, more important, spending half a day chasing useless facts across the Web means we only have to do our real job half as much.
