We had a post all prepped and whatnot, but it's old hat at this point. Apparently this is going to be the last Westheimer Block Party, for now. So get your ass out there and go see some music this weekend, got it? Houstonist commands you.

Spring is springing which means that Festival time in Houston is ramping up, people. This weekend saw the official launch of Discovery Green and the recurrence of the Westheimer Block Party; more on these in a second. Next weekend brings us the International Festival and others. Get out your calendar and start planning. You'll not want to miss a chance to be outside if the spectacular weather continues.

It's March now; the freakish weather is in full effect and your allergies are making you wish the spring was a figment of your imagination. What better way to celebrate than to go outside?

The day was sunny with very few clouds overhead. The music was local and there was lots of it. Over fifty bands were scheduled to perform in the span of about nine hours at three locations with five stages and the block party fans came out in force to soak up the sun and music. There were artists, creating and selling art, there were art installations, a smattering of food and merchandise vendors. There was...

Local bands AWAKE and Together. We Are Instruments play at the ultra-hip Super Happy Fun Land. Other local favorites Prodigal Sons and Lanky open for emerging Geffen pop artist Matt White at Jet Lounge. Thursday, check out Twelve Girls Band: a dozen classically-trained musicians (all women, of course) playing both traditional Chinese songs and popular pop songs. Friday night, Beaumont's own classic blues-rocker Johnny Winter returns to Houston at the Meridian. Saturday, block-off your...

[Weekend Festival Edition] Well, folks, spring is here, and with it comes a slew of outdoor festivals. And just in time for this great weather we've been having. Better bask in it, before sweltering Houston heat regins for the next 6 months. Don't say we didn't warn ya! Bayou City Arts Festival Dates | March 23 through Sunday, March 25, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Location | Memorial Park Tickes | Admission is $10...

When you think of block parties, you usually thing of a cul-de-sac in a suburban neighborhood with hot dogs, red and white checkered table clothed over folding tables, annoying neighbors drinking their Miller Lite while they scream at their kids. Put those thoughts behind you – the Westheimer Block Party is totally different, and much better. Think of a block party in the Montrose area, the heart of Houston, with over 40 local bands playing....

We checked our bank account today and had to fight the urge to pick up the phone and call mom and dad for a handout loan. Things are looking bleak our immediate financial future. Good thing there’s a big ass (free) party happening this weekend! It’s better known as the Westheimer Block Party.

Houstonist loves a good festival and not just for the funnel cakes. This weekend, the Westheimer Block Party (formerly Westheimer Arts Festival and Westheimer Street Fair) will make another attempt after it was rained out back in late April. Lots of bands and, no doubt, lots of food will be on hand as the festival is set to go off from noon until 9pm in parking lots and inside clubs along lower Westheimer. Houstonist will...

Before we get to the week’s picks, those who braved the rain to check out the music at the Westheimer Block Party were surely disappointed. We’ve learned that the event has been rescheduled for May 27th … weather permitting, of course. Tuesday First Dallas Wayne, now we have Austin Collins – why isn’t there a Texas country act representing our great city with their name? (No, Whitney doesn’t count.) Austin is actually Houston-bred, and...

Houstonist remembers the old days of the Westheimer Street Festival, when lower Westheimer was closed for most of the weekend while freaks locals took over the street, selling crap you don’t need art, playing music, showing off their boa constrictors around their neck, and providing beer for visitors. Those days are gone, but the Houston Free Press is working to keep the spirit alive with the Westheimer Block Party. Rain or shine (which, unfortunately, looks...
