Here at Houstonist, we don't get all of our gift purchasing completed by Halloween. Sometimes, we are in the mad rush on Christmas Eve ( Aunt WHO is going to be there? RATS - now, I need another gift!). So, if you are anything at all like us, and are still cramming gifts and tissue paper into those cute little gift bags, wrapping boxes up with bows and realizing you forgot someone important - today and/or tomorrow are the last days to e-shop in time for a Chrismas delivery.
Ah, December, the lights, the sparklies, the much-overplayed muzak carols, the incessant pressure to decorate and provide gifts to friends and family, the parties and food and drink. Houstonist actually loves the holidays - really (yes, that's Freddie and Flaco your hear, performing Frosty the Snowman, when we drive past you). It's time for the 6th Annual Buffalo Bayou ArtPark ("BBAP") XMAS Tree Show!! The tree projects, created by eight artists and one artist collective have been installed around Fish Plaza at the Wortham Theater Center, located at 501 Texas Avenue.
Houstonist loves Thanksgiving. That said, we'll be the first to admit that Thanksgiving can get pretty boring. Face it: Once you have dinner and the family settles into a tryptophan-and-football-induced coma, all you can do is look forward to leftover turkey sandwiches. So why not get into the holiday spirit this Thanksgiving with a trip to the Buffalo Bayou ArtPark's 2005 Xmas Tree Show? Twenty-one artists and groups decorate trees however they want, and the results are usually pretty crazy. This year, the entries include a 25-layer tree cake, an inverted tree and a tree decorated with traffic lights. If that doesn't make you feel Christmasy, we don't know what will.
